Advent Decorating Theme:

“Heaven Meets Earth” This advent season, let’s contemplate with awe and curiosity what it really meant for Jesus to leave the glory of heaven and take on the limiting form of humanity in order to be our Messiah. God, in all of his holiness, purity, splendor and power, out of his great love for us— a people fraught with worry, selfishness, cunning, and wickedness— chose to enter the muck and mire of humanity. The night Jesus was born must have been filled with paradox: holy meets haughty, purity meets filth, God becomes man and takes on flesh, light dispels darkness, heaven touches earth. Yet because God was willing to bring his kingdom to us, we will never be the same! Philippians 2:5-10 (NLT) “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” The rustic wood backdrop reminds us of Jesus’s humble, rugged beginning on earth. The white reminds us of his holiness, purity, and perfection. The lights remind us that Jesus is the light of the world. As followers of Christ, we too are called to be a light in a world that is hurting and lost.

work as worship 1-day retreat

God has a purpose for us: to be on mission for God where He has placed us. And since most of us spend so many hours “on the job,” we need to understand how that fits into the mission. You’re invited to the 2018 Work as Worship Retreat, where influential business leaders and pastors will share what it looks like to connect faith and work. This 1–Day Local Church Retreat on February 23, 2018, will be web-streamed to us here at Faith Church. Join Patrick Lencioni (Author of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team), Joel Manby (CEO at SeaWorld), Phil Vischer (Creator of VeggieTales ), Matt Chandler (Lead Pastor at The Village Church), and others in a day of real-life stories, biblical teaching, and practical wisdom to equip believers in the marketplace to see their work as an opportunity to fulfill God’s mission for us. Registration is $25 and is open to everyone. Contact Pastor Scott or visit www.workasworshipretreat.org to learn more or register.
