Helen L. Williams Auust 4, 1919 – June 21, 2015
Helen L. (Vath) Williams, 95, longtime Keystone resident, died Sunday, June 21, 2015, in Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. She was born August 4, 1919 in a sod house in Arthur County, Nebraska, to Jesse and Nellie (Platz) Vath. She grew up on a farm in Arthur County, Nebraska and graduated from Arthur County High School on May 21, 1936. Helen became a Christian while in High School and followed the Lord in baptism. She married Walter L. Williams, Jr. in Stockville, Nebraska on October 10, 1936. She attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska Kearney with a B.A. in education. She taught in rural schools in Keith and Arthur Counties for 32 years. She was a gifted teacher. Helen was a member of both Arthur and Keith County Teachers Associations, Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers Association, and a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Keystone-Lemoyne Fire Department. She loved to fish, read, work crossword puzzles, square dance, play cards, do crafts and was a published author. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, four children, three brothers, one sister, and one sonin-law. Survivors include two sons Larry (Rose) Williams of Oregon and Gerald (Linda) Williams of Denver; one daughter A. Louise Hill of Keystone. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren; sisters-in-law Lucky Vath of Keystone, Rosie Grigsby of North Platte, Marge Benson of Denver, and Jane Williams of Cheyenne and one brother-in-law Clarence (Arlette) Williams of Wallace; and step sisters: Mary (Louis) Vath of Sutherland and Vi Anderson of Ogallala, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Ogallala with Rev. Phil Ewert officiating. Interment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory. Online Condolences may be sent to drauckerfuneralhome.com.
