Hello and Welcome to TSiBA TSiBA Education NPC is a unique private, not-for-profit business school. TSiBA is an acronym for the Tertiary School in Business Administration and in isiXhosa “uku tsiba!” means to jump – and TSiBA does just this by facilitating access to tertiary education for students with academic and leadership potential but whose entry to such opportunity is restricted by socio-economic environmental factors. TSiBA was founded in 2004 with a vision to Ignite Opportunity and our mission is to be an innovative learning community that graduates entrepreneurial leaders who ignite opportunity and social change. As a higher education institution, TSiBA provides talented individuals with opportunities to study high quality, accredited academic programmes that are focused on developing entrepreneurship and leadership. All students receive tuition scholarships and Pay Forward the skills and knowledge they gain at TSiBA into their communities – thus utilising their education opportunity in ways that help to develop innovative strategies of decreasing the gap between rich and poor for many and not just for themselves.

Entrepreneurship and Leadership are major subjects in all TSiBA’s qualifications with the aim of developing leaders and entrepreneurs who will take South Africa forward as drivers of social change. Our accredited academic programmes include:

• Certificate in Practical Business Administration (NQF 4) and • Higher Certificate in Business Administration (NQF 5) • Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurial Leadership (NQF 7) • Post Graduate Diploma in Small Enterprise Consulting (NQF 8)

TSiBA’s unique Profile of Graduateness places attitude at the heart of a student’s development and surrounds this with layers of knowledge and skills. TSiBA seeks to ensure that students are both fully equipped for further study and the working world and are provided with practical opportunities to incubate and manage businesses while studying. TSiBA currently has an urban campus in Pinelands, Cape Town and a rural campus, TSiBA Eden, in the town of Karatara, near Knysna. Both campuses have established Ignition Centres which are resource hubs dedicated to extending TSiBA’s mission of Igniting Opportunity to reach beyond our students and into the communities in which campuses are based. We offer support to job seekers and entrepreneurs through training, mentorship, access to business networks, office infrastructure and business support instruments. With an eye to the future, TSiBA has created the TSiBA Education Trust, a separate Public Benefit Organisation that is able to participate in Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) transactions. The Trust has been structured to avail points for partners across the five pillars of the revised Codes of Good Practice and offers a very attractive alternative to companies looking for an empowerment partner with tangible beneficiaries. Following the success and impact of our academic programmes, TSiBA also offers commercial services that honour and leverage TSiBA’s vision of Igniting Opportunity:

• TSiBA Education Solutions – offering TSiBA intellectual property in organisational skills assessment and development. • The TSiBA Ignition Centre – a recognised 3rd party provider of Enterprise and Supplier Development services. • The TSiBA Career Centre – a registered recruitment agent sourcing business graduates and professionals across all levels and employment equity profiles.

Each of these specialty offerings enable TSiBA to add significant value to our students, alumni, partners and the greater community in which we operate.

TSiBA’s impact in the past decade • Since inception in 2004, TSiBA has awarded   more than 1200 full-tuition scholarships to students who would otherwise have been unable to access higher education. • 7 TSiBA graduates have been awarded Mandela Rhodes Scholarships, the most prestigious scholarship for post-graduate study. No other university in South Africa has consistently achieved this level of Mandela Rhodes scholarship awards. • 3 TSiBA graduates are Kofi Annan Fellows studying towards Masters degrees in Europe and 2 undergraduate students have been named as Alan Gray Orbis Fellows. • 83% of TSiBA students are first generation tertiary education entrants. • TSiBA has achieved a 50% throughput rate on our BBA Degree versus the national average of 25% for student’s in-year degree programs in contact tertiary education.

• 85% of TSiBA’s one-year Higher Certificate graduates secure next steps 6 months after completing their course: Tertiary studies, aspirant employment or entrepreneurial activity. • 95% of TSiBA BBA degree graduates are either employed or pursuing post graduate studies. Against the national post graduate average for post graduate employment and studies, this is an exceptionally high success rate. • More than a third of our graduates are Paying it Forward in some way by igniting opportunity for others through lecturing, mentoring or tutoring. • Student mentorship, self-development and leadership are embedded formally into the TSiBA education model. The TSiBA approach is unique in this way and designed specifically around the challenges faced by first generation tertiary education students and our finegrained support services play an essential role in this endeavour.
