Purpose The Stillwater Area Fastpitch Association (commonly referred to as Stillwater Fast Pitch) was established in 1984 to promote the development of a quality, competitive level of girls fast pitch softball in the St. Croix Valley Area. Varsity Report – Bob Beedle Overall it was a successful season for the Ponies. The Ponies had 2 wins over Forest Lake and 1 win over Park of Cottage Grove who were both very strong teams. Woodbury won the conference and went on to the State Tourney. The Ponies banquet is coming up on June 20th. One highlight for the year was when the Ponies had the opportunity to play under the lights at Northwestern. This was a fun, unique experience that we hope to continue in future years. 5. 12U Tryouts (Dan McKay) The tryouts are planned for this Fall. The tryouts will be held on Sept 9th or 10th. The rain out dates will be Sept 16th or 17th. Whether the tryout is Saturday or Sunday will depend on the Fall ball schedule and that will be available in early August. Typically the first three weekends of Fall Ball the games are on Sunday and the last two weekends the games are on Saturday. If that is the same this year the Fall ball games will be held on Sunday Sept 10th, so most likely the tryouts will be on Saturday, Sept 9th. There are about 19 girls moving up to 12’s from current 10U teams and there are about another 12 that are staying for their second year of 12s. Bob will contact VAA to ask them to communicate our 12U tryout date to their teams for potential new 12U players from VAA. Pitching tryout date is TBD. We will plan to hold a 12U parent meeting in late August.
6. 14U Offerings (Mark Johnson) The 14U team this year played in the Community Level Rookies Tourney and took 1 st place. They have a very busy schedule the rest of June and July and will have more challenging games coming up. Mark Johnson put together an offering similar to last year’s 14U program, but there are a few changes based on feedback from the current 14U families. Mark added additional Dec/Jan clinic dates as well as the Turkey Trot and Holiday Bash Dome Tournaments and participating in the Club Level Division (instead of Community Division) for the St. Paul Rookies tournament. The clinics will be held on Sunday nights for 1 ½ hours to minimize the impact to in season sport schedules. We also agreed that it makes sense to include the offseason clinics as part of the regular registration. Mike Gray will review the costing model that Mark drafted and provide feedback. We will plan to hold a parent meeting regarding the 14U tryouts and offering after the State Tournament in July. Based on the number of girls moving up and potentially returning to 14U as well as potential new players there is a possibility of 2 14U teams. 12U players will be allowed to tryout to play up if desired. The planned 14U tryout dates are Thursday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 6th. 7. Open Forum The 12U Red team had the Rosemount Tourney cancelled so a full refund was issued. The board approved that the refund could be applied to the NAFA Registration fee as they qualified for that tourney. This would also apply to any other teams who were issued refunds for cancelled or partially cancelled tournaments Both 12U teams have qualified for the NAFA tournament. The association will provide each player with 6 pins and additional pins can be purchased from the association. Bob Beedle will take point on getting representation at the VAA Jamboree the weekend of July 8th/9th to get information out about SAFA opportunities to the VAA players. Fall Ball registration opened the first week in July last year. We will plan to do the same thing for this year with a $100 entrance fee. 8. Next Meeting We will leave the date as TBD depending on what develops with 14U planning. It will most likely be in July sometime. 9. Adjourn Mike Gray motioned to adjourn at 9:20PM. Nicole Perkins seconded it and all approved.
