Help build a premier sports & events facility in southwest Montana.

Originally constructed in 1949, Vigilante Stadium is the home of the University of Montana Western (UMW) Bulldogs and the Beaverhead County High School (BCHS) Beavers. Over the years the stadium has served the needs of university and high school athletic teams. But we believe upgrading the facility will not only enhance the viewer experience but will add a new dimension to our community. A committed group of alumni and supporters are working to fund renovation and reconfiguration of the venue.

Pursuing excellence. As a university, Montana Western is committed to student success in the classroom and on the playing field. We highly value competitive teams and providing opportunities for student-athletes to develop leadership skills, integrity and personal growth. A big factor in that success is providing the best facilities and equipment possible to enhance our competitive edge.

Building for the future. In the fall of 2015, campus and community representatives met to create a 10-year facilities master plan.

What we are proposing?

Attracting new events.

The renovation will include a number of enhancements that will turn the stadium into a modern, high quality, comprehensive facility.

A modern and comprehensive stadium complex will give us the ability to attract new and diverse events to Dillon.

Site improvements include the addition of a new stadium entrance and ticket office adjacent to a much needed dedicated parking lot.

Connecting with our community.

The current grass playing surface will be replaced by low-maintenance artificial turf. Also added will be a new scoreboard centered at the back of the end zone, enhanced lighting, expanded seating and a locker room addition. A new sky box will house coaches, media and enclosed VIP boxes. A new pavillion will provide a gathering place for numerous events.

A case for your support. The renovation project will provide major benefits for our campus and community.

Enriching a remarkable university. The renovated stadium will serve the many students participating in athletics and the significant number attending sports events.

The result was a document which adopted four key objectives: enriching student life, supporting a high-quality university experience, enhancing the campus environment and increasing interaction with our community.

Elevating the athletic experience will assist in our overall student recruitment efforts and help build Bulldog pride.

The renovation of Vigilante Stadium touches on all four of these guiding principles and provides a number of benefits for our community as well.

A first-class stadium will assist us in attracting the next generation of high quality student-athletes. Many Frontier Conference schools have or are in the process of upgrading their facilities.

Keeping us competitive.

Our long standing partnership with BCHS has created a real advantage for both the school district and university. An expanded facility will allow us to involve additional organizations and community groups.

Stimulating the local economy. Each and every home game and event staged at the stadium brings visitors to Dillon and Beaverhead County who add revenue to local businesses.

Cost savings. Care has been taken to design facilities and improvements that will minimize maintenance and result in a significant savings. The low-maintenance artificial turf will drastically reduce the time and resource necessary to maintain the playing service.
