Help Sheets For Information Handling Outcomes Early Stage: I can collect objects and ask questions to gather information, organise and display my finding in different ways. MNU0-20a I can match objects, and sort using my own and others’ criteria sharing my ideas with others. MNU 0-20b I can use the sign and charts around me for information, helping me plan and make choices and decisions in my daily life. MNU 0-20c 1st Stage: I have explored a variety of ways in which data is presented and can answer questions about the information it contains. MNU1-20a I have used a range of ways to collect information and can sort it on a logical, organised and imaginative way using my own and others’ criteria. MNU1-20b Using technology and other methods, I can display data simply, clearly and accurately by creating tables, charts and diagrams, using simple labelling and scale. MTH 1-21a 2nd Stage: Having discussed the variety of ways and range of media used to present data, I can interpret and draw conclusions from the information displayed, recognising that the presentation may be misleading. MNU 2-20a I have carried out investigations and surveys, diving and using a variety of methods to gather information and have worked with others to collate organise and communicate the results in an appropriate way. MNU 2-20b I can display data in a clear way using a suitable scale, by choosing appropriately from an extended range of tables, charts, diagrams and graphs, making effective use of technology. A Guide to Graphs A Bar Graph Students Favourite Colour

Number of Students

Favourite Colour

A Bar Graph must have a title The x axis is the horizontal line in the graph. The y axis is the vertical line in the graph. Both axes must be labelled In this graph, the x axis shows the favourite colour. In this graph the y axis shows the number of students. The y axis must have a suitable scale. In bar graphs the bars have spaces between them.

A Histogram A Histogram usually shows the frequency. In a Histogram the bars must touch. The graph should have a title. Each axis must be labelled. The y axis must have a suitable scale.

The mass of a fish

A Trend Graph A Trend Graph shows the trend of something. The graph has a title and the axes are both labelled. A Trend Graph is made by marking the points on the graph and then joining the centres of the marks using straight broken lines. Data Handling Language: Set, group, information, data, most and least common, diagram, trend graph, bar graph, histogram , pie chart, title, label, range, x-axis and y-axis.

This is a Pie Chart Pie charts can be used to show the percentage of 1 whole or 100% A Pie chart should have a title and it should have a key. The chart may or may not show the actual percentages.

A Guide to : Mode, Median, Mean and Range Mode - The mode is the value that appears the most. To work out the mode: Put the numbers in order. 3 6 6 6 7 9 11 11 13 Look for the number that appears the most. 6 appears more than any other number. So the mode value is 6.

Median - The median is the middle value. To work out the median: Put the numbers in order. 3 6 6 6 7 9 11 11 13 The number in the middle of the list is the median 7 is in the middle. So the median value is 7. If there are two middle values, the median is halfway between them. For example, if the set of numbers were 3 6 6 6 7 8 9 11 11 13 There are two middle values, 7 and 8. The median is halfway between 7 and 8. The median is 7.5 Mean - The mean is the total of the numbers divided by how many numbers there are. To work out the mean: Add up all the numbers. 7 + 9 + 11 + 6 + 13 + 6 + 6 + 3 + 11 = 72 Divide the answer by how many numbers there are. There are 9 numbers. 72 ÷ 9 = 8 So the mean value is 8. Note: sometimes, you do not get a whole number

Range - The range is the difference between the biggest and the smallest number. To work out the range: Put the numbers in order. 3 6 6 6 7 9 11 11 13 Subtract the smallest number from the biggest number. 13 - 3 = 10 So the range of this set of numbers is 10.
