[email protected] lawn in order to try to finish before dinner. The man’s 6 year old son, Mikey, came up and without even asking, put his hands on the mower handle. Dad knew Mikey wanted to help, and he quit pushing. When the mower quickly slowed to a stop the father resisted the urge to say, “Get out of here, kid. You’re in the way.” Instead, he said, “Here son. I’ll help you.” In order to push the mower along with Mikey, he had to bow his back, lean forward, and walk spread-legged. The grass got cut, but it was done more slowly and less efficiently than before because Mikey was “helping.” Suddenly, the father realized with tears in his eyes that this is the way our heavenly Father allows us to “help” him build his kingdom! He is strong and able, while my hands are weak. He could do the work himself, but he doesn’t. He chooses to stoop graciously to allow me to labor with him. Why? For my sake, because he wants me to have the privilege of serving with him. God bless you this week as you “help”!

Scripture Reading 4-12-15 Numbers 11:1 - 15 (NIV) 1 Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the LORD burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. 2When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the LORD and the fire died down. 3So that place was called Taberah, because fire from the LORD had burned among them. 4 The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! 5We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. 6But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!” 7 The manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin. 8The people went around gathering it, and then ground it in a handmill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into cakes. And it tasted like something made with olive oil. 9When the dew settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down. 10 Moses heard the people of every family wailing, each at the entrance to his tent. The LORD became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. 11He asked the LORD, “Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me? 12Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their forefathers? 13Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me. 15If this is how you are going to treat me, put me to death right now—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me face my own ruin.” 6

The children of Israel were to learn that . . . A. They should trust ________________________________. B. They must trust God to ____________________________.
Three observations Vs 1-3 1. Our tendency to _________________________ at times. 2._______________________ is related to our development and growth. 3. A _______________ can save people from destruction.
Israel never enjoyed God’s presence because they were . . . A. Unaffected by ___________________________ Vs. 3, 34 So that place was called Taberah, because fire from the LORD had burned among them. Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food. 3
B. Unappreciative of ___________________________ Israel may have been freed from Egypt, but their spirit was still in captivity.
C. Insensitive to _________________________ D. ____________________________________
The truth about a complaining spirit . . . 1. It is _________________________ Vs. 4 The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat!”
2. It ___________________________________ Vs. 5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.
Dissatisfaction comes when we focus on what we don’t have, instead of what we have. 3. It is not satisfied with ______________________ Vs. 6 But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!
4. It wants _________________Vs. 10 Moses heard the people of every family wailing, each at the entrance to his tent. The LORD became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. 4
The difference between a concerned person and a complaining person is… Concerned people - Express their views to the right person and then leaves it. Complaining people - Express their views to every person and then never leaves it. 5. Complaining people can cause a leader ______________. Vs. 10-15 6. It is the roots of _______________________________. Vs. 16-23 31-32 7. It will bring the ________________________.Vs. 33-34
Two Truths of the Wandering A. Israel had ______________________________________ as God’s people. B. Israel ____________________________what God wanted for His people.
Closing thoughts… 1. God gives graciously. 2. God is unhappy when we complain. 3. God sometimes gives us what we don’t need. 5
