Herbert J. Swender Scholarship “Integrity, Leadership, Academics, and Interscholastic Athletics” One $500 Scholarship will be awarded. ELIGIBILITY: The applicant must be a graduating Chanute High School senior who participated in interscholastic athletics while in high school and who plans to continue their education at Neosho County Community College. It will not be required for the applicant to participate in future interscholastic athletics while attending Neosho County Community College to be awarded this scholarship. SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: The scholarship amount of $500 will be made payable directly to the student. APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 1st APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: The applicant is required to complete the application form; write the essay; obtain the supporting signatures of three teachers or administrators who recommend the student for this scholarship; and attach their transcript to this application. The completed materials should be returned to the Chanute High School Guidance Office by the stated deadline. SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE: The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize a distinguished CHS student, who has participated in interscholastic athletics while in high school, exhibited an academic record of 3.0 cumulative GPA or above, demonstrated integrity and leadership skills; served as a positive role model for others; and obtained supporting signatures of three teachers or administrators who recommend the applicant. SELECTION CRITERIA: The Selection Committee will take into consideration the following criteria in selecting the scholarship award recipient: A. Participation in interscholastic athletics while in high school; B. Possess an academic record of 3.0 cumulative GPA or above; C. Demonstrate integrity and leadership skills while participating in interscholastic activities and by their actions while participating in these activities; D. Serve as a positive role model for others; and E. Provide recommendation signatures of three teachers or administrators. The Selection Committee will consist of members of the CHS Faculty and Administration and the Herbert J. Swender family.
