APPLICATION PROCESS
COLLEGE SUMMER INTERNS
FUMC college students intern at the Baldwin Center Summer Enrichment Day Camp for elementary school students in Pontiac. Students from our congregation find it to be a rewarding and enjoyable way to spend the summer, helping young students and earning money for the following school year at the same time.
LEADING BY EXAMPLE
Interns work at the Baldwin Center in Pontiac under the supervision of the Center’s Summer Enrichment Program director. They act as teacher aides, working with the teachers to prepare and help teach classes like reading, math, science, and computer literacy. Interns help with arts and crafts, recess, field trips and lunch duty.
Applicants must be at least 18 by the first day of camp. Preference will be made to those with at least one year of college and to those who are members of our congregation.
LEARNING AND ENGAGED Baldwin Center keeps kids learning and engaged with a 7-week summer program that draws more than 60 students from kindergarten through 6th grade. In the mornings reading and math tutoring sessions are held, a healthy lunch is provided, and the afternoon is filled with arts & crafts, outdoor sports, and field trips to area museums and outdoor attractions. The interns also help with a one week overnight camp. Through a partnership with Detroit Conference United Methodist Camps older children from the summer enrichment program attend Camp Kinawind in Boyne Falls, Michigan. The youth are able to go hiking, swimming and enjoy a variety of traditional summer camp experiences in a small group setting.
Applications are available on the website starting in the winter.
