WHAT IS NAECA 2015?

LEARN HOW NAECA 2015 REGULATIONS AFFECT YOU. APRIL 16

Ruud.com/ReadywithRuud 1-800-521-5622

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), as part of the National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA), issued Final Rule energy efficiency mandates in April 2010. This new update, effective April 16, 2015, will require higher Energy Factor (EF) ratings on almost all residential gas, electric, oil and tankless gas water heaters. While NAECA 2015 only applies to products manufactured for sale in the U.S., Canada will soon implement similar increases in efficiency standards. These far-reaching new requirements will have important impacts on water heating manufacturers, distributors, contractors and homeowners.

As your trusted water heating pioneers for more than 100 years, Ruud is committed to helping both partners and consumers maximize the positive impact of new energy- and cost-saving technologies on their homes, businesses and the earth. So when it comes to meeting—and exceeding—NAECA 2015 standards, we’re ahead of the game. With a complete portfolio of advanced products and resources, Ruud is ready to help you turn new national efficiency requirements into business opportunities.

HOW WILL NAECA 2015 AFFECT MY BUSINESS? You may continue to sell water heaters manufactured before April 16, 2015 that do not meet new NAECA 2015 standards, as the increased efficiency requirements only apply to units manufactured on or after that date.

However, all new residential water heaters produced on or after April 16, 2015 will be affected according to their power source, technologies, size and other key design factors.

WHAT DO THESE CHANGES MEAN? FOR CONTRACTORS: More calls, more sales New technologies and installation requirements will lead to increasing consumer demand for your expertise. Relationship-building opportunities with consumers Homeowners will rely more heavily on their contractors when choosing, installing and maintaining water heating solutions. Smaller price gaps between standard products and existing high efficiency products This could make it easier for you to up-sell to a highefficiency system, like the compact Ruud Professional™ Achiever Plus™ Induced Draft gas model. (NOTE: Space/ footprint will still be a crucial factor in determining the best products to offer homeowners.) New training Ruud’s complete online and field training programs will educate you on advanced model technologies, features and installation procedures. Increases in manpower and resources required for storage and installation New technologies and larger units mean installations may require two installers, and additional installation equipment. New considerations when choosing an installation location This includes space requirements for larger-sized replacements, additional technologies (like condensate management) and access to electricity for some gas models.

FOR HOMEOWNERS: Upgrading benefits Upgrading from a lower-efficiency standard water heater to a high efficiency model from the Ruud Professional™ Line, like the Achiever Plus™ Induced Draft, Ultra™ Condensing Tankless, or Ultra™ Heat Pump Water Heater, can significantly increase savings and performance over the lifetime of the water heater. An increased initial investment While initial product and/or installation costs for new water heaters will likely be higher, higher-efficiency products offer homeowners long-term value, increased energy savings and improved performance over the lifetime of the water heater. Potential relocation of water heaters Due to unit size, available space (especially closet installations) and added technologies (for example, gas replacements requiring electric hookups), some water heaters may need to be relocated. New capacity considerations Changes to unit sizing and output may require some homeowners to down-size the gallon capacity of their water heaters, install multiple units, or make other modifications with the help of an independent Ruud contractor. Trusted relationships with quality water heating professionals Homeowners can depend on independent Ruud contractors to provide the advanced, energy-compliant products, expertise and experienced service needed to choose, install, maintain and enjoy a new water heater.
