Joplin Church of the Nazarene District HIGHLIGHTS Fall 2015-2016 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Proverbs 3:27 As I think of the Joplin District Ministry team this morning the verse above comes to mind. It is clergy appreciation month and my mind continues to be filled with the acts of kindness that every clergy member commits daily. I wanted to take a few moments in this Highlights article and express my gratitude for you, pastors and staff members, who pour your lives out daily for Jesus Christ and His church. Rev. Mark Bane District Superintendent

Pastors, thank you for visiting people when they are ill. I can remember when my daughter Katie was so sick. We had many visits from pastors and it was probably the only thing that carried us through the difficult times. I know there are times when you make visits in the late hours of the night and have to sacrifice time spent with your families. Thank you, your service does not go unnoticed. Pastors, thank you for spending hours in prayer for us, your people. I'm sure there are times when you wonder if it makes any difference. I, for one, can assure you that it does. When I receive a text or a phone call from my pastor, Dustin Ledford, saying I have prayed for you today, I'm grateful for the reminder. However, I feel the effects of his prayers before he ever makes contact because often in the weariness of the day I feel my hands are being held up. Thank you, pastors, for holding up the hands of your people. I believe the greatest gift you can give is to pray for your people. Pastors, thank you for spending hours in the Word preparing great messages every week. Although I haven't had the privilege of hearing most of you preach, I know that your preaching is making a difference. I know this because when I greet your people, I see they are learning to be more like Jesus, they are more generous, they are more caring for the unsaved, they brag on you, they are people filled with praise. The evidence of your great sermon preparation permeates the very fabric of our district through the lives of every lay person I meet. Thank you, Pastors, for saying things that we need to hear but often do not want to hear from God's Word. Please continue to speak the Word. The truth in love is the only cure for the daily challenges of our lives. Thank you, Youth Pastors, Worship Pastors, Children's Pastors, Executive Pastors, etc for demonstrating service as ministry partners across the great Joplin District. We owe a special debt of gratitude to you. Our pastors and staff on the Joplin District remind me of the statement made by Dr. Eugenio Duarte as he delivered me to the airport during the M15 conference. "The higher the title, the more distinguished the position in the church, the greater the service." The Joplin District is on the move. More people are finding Christ than ever before, more Christians are being discipled than ever before, more churches are being planted than ever before. Thank you, Pastors and Staff for leading us. I trust your congregation will honor you and that you will be made aware this month that a grateful church recognizes and appreciates your sacrifice. Happy Clergy Appreciation Month! A grateful church member, Mark J Bane

Thank you to all those who attended the Transformational Week at the District Office! We hope you left with many strategies and tools to help your church reach out and depopulate hell in your community.

NAZARENE MISSIONS INTERNATIONAL October’s Emphasis– Mission Priority One, and Thanksgiving Offering

Praying Are you dreaming? I am! I’m dreaming of every church on the Joplin District participating in every Mission offering, paying 100% of their WEF and new believers being led to Christ in every church! Dream Big! Dream of a stronger church, a stronger District, a stronger denomination as we partner together to Pray more, study the Word more, and testify more about what Jesus Christ is doing and has done! If we each share our faith, teach a younger person to pray, seek the Lord about every decision, we will see a change in our world. Dream big! And watch God do the miraculous! -Rhonda Rhoades NMI Joplin District President

Mission Priority One

Sometimes we need ideas on how to live a mission-centered life. We need clear, realistic direction to help carry out God’s mission. That’s the reason for : Mission Priority One. NMI has four objectives each local church should participate in. 1.) Praying— Interceding for leaders and churches and for the Holy Spirit to draw all people to Christ 2.) Discipling— Involving and mentoring future missions leaders, especially youth and children, to make Christlike disciples for God’s mission in the nations. 3.) Giving—Devoting ourselves and our resources, especially the World Evangelism Fund, to extend Christ’s kingdom. 4.)Education— Informing people of the World’s needs and enabling our church to meet those needs in Christ. For more information and ideas on how to be a Mission One Priority church see NMI Resource Book pages 48– 50. See Page 53 for flyer announcing Thanksgiving offering.

November’s Emphasis– Thanksgiving Offering/the Persecuted Church

November 8, 2015 International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

God’s children, your brothers and sisters in Christ around the world are hunted, imprisoned, tortured, and killed. WOULD YOU PRAY FOR THEM?

THANKSGIVING OFFERING

Prayer and fasting are so vital to missions that it is not restricted to a particular month for emphasis. It is encouraged each month. Go to these website for more information and see where your prayers are needed:

Support our missional work by giving a Thanksgiving offering. The importance of funding the mission of the Church of the Nazarene has never been more critical than it is now. Share your abundance with the world. See page 52 of Resource book.
