7th October 2016 Macmillan Coffee Morning Thank you to everyone that came last Friday to our coffee morning and to those that donated and/or bought cakes. We raised a fantastic amount of £242 and all proceeds are going to ‘We Are Macmillan Cancer Support’ charity.

School Council – The Big Question The aim of ‘The Big Question’ for Hillside will cover two areas. We will either have a question about school where we want to gather children’s views about a particular issue or it will be a thinking question with no right or wrong answer. These questions aim to support the children in having an opinion and reasoning as to why they think what they do. Also as a group they are designed to encourage children to have respect for others ideas and to accept that not everyone believes the same things/has the same ideas but this is okay. Each week ‘The Big Question’ will be published in the newsletter so that children have the opportunity to discuss it at home before school council on the Monday afternoon. The question for Monday 10th October is; if you had to go on journey to the moon, which two story characters would you choose to go with and why?

Parents Evening 3.30pm – 6pm Wednesday 12th October 3.30pm – 7pm Thursday 13th October The main purpose of consultations is for you to meet your child’s new teachers and check that they are settling well into the new term. The teacher will let you know the progress to date and how you can help your child this year. There is always homelearning to be done; if your child does not bring it home – ask for it. Reading is the most important home-learning to be done, using school graded books and the children’s own library choice. Entrance to parents evening will be via the hall door rather than the main entrance. In the hall the Friends of Hillside will be selling teas and coffees, and there will be a range of games based on our year of kindness theme. There will be prefects on hand to guide you to classrooms and they will also issue you with a token to vote for your favourite display that can be seen around the corridors of the year 3 – 6 classrooms. Please place your token in the Tupperware box next to your favourite display. www.hillsideprimary.com
