Exam Board: OCR Course Overview GCSE History has changed and is now awarding grades 1-9. We are following the specification below. OCR History A: Explaining the Modern World (J410) Component Group 1: International Relations: the changing international order 1918-c.2001 with non-British depth study This covers the inter-war period between World War I and II, the Cold War and Post-Cold War period and goes up to 9/11. The non-British Depth study will be the USA, 1919-1948 Exam is a 1 hour and 45 minute written paper and 50% of the final GCSE. Component Group 2: Thematic study. ‘War and British Society c.790 to c.2010’ This covers way warfare has affected society and is a long term study. Exam is a 1 hour written paper and is 25% of the final GCSE. Component Group 3: British depth study and a study of the historic environment. Personal Rule to Restoration 1629–1660 with Castles Form and Function c.1000-1750 This covers the end of personal rule in Britain and the restoration of the monarchy, combining it with a study of how castles have changed. The exam paper will focus on a different castle site each year and is sponsored by English Heritage. Exam is a 1 hour, 15 minute written paper and is 25% of the final GCSE.

Possible paths in Post 16: Students that achieve well in History will be able to progress to History at A Level which is a wellrespected qualification by Universities. It can be helpful for careers in Law, Education, Media, Politics, Business and obviously, History. Studying History also supports further study of a range of Humanities qualifications at A Level, such as Psychology, Sociology and Geography.
