7 June 2016 Dear Parents The RNLI have invited Y6 pupils to participate in the Hit the Surf programme for 2016. The programme offers 8-11 year old pupils a unique opportunity to gain practical lessons in lifesaving and beach safety. This programme will be running at the following venue: Scarborough RNLI Lifeboat - temporary base at The Spa, South Bay, Scarborough Tuesday 14th June 2016 (am) All equipment will be provided by the RNLI (including wetsuits). A basic swimming competency is required, students should be able to swim at least 25 meters and be comfortable with going into the sea. The session lasts 2.5 hours and includes: A theory lesson on staying safe at the beach, the role of lifeguards and the RNLI Practical lessons in lifesaving and surf based skills, whilst building the pupil’s confidence in the sea Learn about the local hazards and the beach environment A Hit The Surf certificate We will walk there and back so sensible clothes and suitable footwear will be required. Children will also need a towel, drink and a packed lunch. Weather permitting we will stay on the beach for the afternoon. The cost of the visit is funded by the RNLI. Please complete and sign the attached indemnity form and consent form and return by Thursday 9th June.
