Save the Date! Advent By Candlelight

www.holytrinitytampa.org T: 813-839-6847 When the calendar hits November 1st we are just a few weeks from the beginning of the annual ‘holiday season’ in America. November 1st is also known as ‘All Saints’ Day.’ Perhaps you are thinking—‘What is that?’ or ‘We aren’t Catholics, so why are we talking about the saints?’ As Lutherans, we use the word saints to speak of all those who have gone before us, as well as all those who stand with us now in faith. We believe that anyone who confesses Jesus as their Lord and Savior and believes in their heart that He has brought salvation is a SAINT! That means you and I are saints! Yet how can we be saints when we often feebly struggle to reflect the love of God in Jesus in our lives? Certainly we are sinners, right? Well, yes, we are sinners. Still, we are also saints. We are saints not because we perfectly reflect the love of God in Jesus, but because Jesus has laid down His life for us and made us His own. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection God sees us as His people—His saints. In Christ we are both sinners and saints. Martin Luther used the Latin phrase simul iustus et peccator, meaning “simultaneously justified and sinful at the same time.” As we move into November and approach holidays and time with family and friends, reflect on the saints that have impacted your life and faith the most. Who introduced you to the faith? Who has been encouraging to you as you have walked in faith? Who has God placed in your life that strengthens your faith? God works through His people—His saints—and I am thankful for the many He has placed in my life through the years, including you all, to walk alongside in faith.

Sunday, December 4th “Lessons from the Shepherds” 6:30 pm – 8:30 PM Please join us for this “ladies only” evening of praise, worship, and celebration as we gather to prepare for the birth of Jesus. We will be collecting monetary donations for our Lutheran missionaries in the Dominican Republic and Papua New Guinea. If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Douglas at [email protected] or Sherry Lane at [email protected] or through the school 813-839-0665.

From the Principal’s Desk Let Your Light Shine Matthew 5:16: "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” It’s that time of year…the Holiday rush. This year more than ever, it seemed like as soon as the Back to School sales ended, the Halloween and Christmas decorations were on those shelves ready for the festive shoppers. And why, by the way, are there so few Thanksgiving decorations? That’s my favorite holiday! But nonetheless, the holidays are upon us, whether we are ready or not. As Christians we always try to remember to keep our focus on the real meaning of the holiday season, but we like all the glitzy festive things too don’t we? So I say let’s work this holiday season to really glitz it up and let our lights shine. So how do we do that? Letting our light shine doesn’t just mean carving our pumpkins with Christian symbols or putting up a decorative Christmas flag with the manger on it, it means taking the true meaning of the holiday season out to the world. It’s about taking the Good News, the amazing story of God’s love, and letting it shine through in all you do. Let that person struggling with their arms full of Thanksgiving groceries in front of you in line at the store and tell them, “God Bless You”. Instead of an Advent calendar this year, start and Advent Prayer Time with your family. Find ways to let the light of Jesus shine through you and out to the world. Enrollment It’s hard to believe, but we’re already talking about enrollment for the 2017/2018 school year. Mrs. Douglas has been giving tours almost daily to perspective families. Official re-enrollment for current students will open in January and open enrollment for the community will being in February. If you know of anyone that might be interested in joining the HTLS family, please have them contact Cathy Douglas in the office. We ask for prayers for the continued growth of the school and for the families as they all make decisions about next year’s decision. Monthly Missions & Chapel Offerings Again during this school year, the students will participate in Monthly Missions. Each month we will focus on a specific group or charity that we will support through donations or collections and prayer. For November’s Monthly Mission, we will again have our annual food drive. This will be kicked off at Lutherfest and continued with the students and their families. December’s Mission is in development. The 1st Quarter Chapel offerings, totaling $868.23, will be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Baton Rouge. For the 2nd Quarter offerings will go to Support Our Troops. Facilities Our Security project is underway. The fencing and gates should be installed around midNovember and our new visitor check-in system will be integrated by then as well. We are very excited for this updates to our campus.
