HOMESCHOOL IOWA CAPITOL DAY CHOOSE YOUR OWN AFTERNOON ADVENTURE Select from these exciting afternoon adventure opportunities to round out your day after spending the morning at our 2016 Homeschool Iowa Capitol Day event! Activities are listed in no particular order.

DES MOINES ART CENTER 4700 Grand Ave, Des Moines http://www.desmoinesartcenter.org/ Admission: Free, but we can possibly arrange for scheduled guided tours at a discounted rate, if there is enough interest. Hours: Closes at 9:00pm The Art Center offers displays of paintings, sculpture, and other art objects by historic and contemporary artists.

STATE HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF IOWA 600 E Locust St, Des Moines http://www.iowahistory.org/museum/ Admission: Free Hours: Closes at 4:30pm Exhibits tell the stories of Iowa’s growth and development through displays of a rich collection of historic artifacts and documents.

LIVING HISTORY FARMS th

7105 NW 70 Ave, Johnston http://www.lhf.org/en/teachers/enrichment_programs/ Admission: Families attending Homeschool Iowa Capitol Day in the morning can schedule their own enrichment programs in the afternoon, most with student admission rate of $9 (the Schoolhouse Program has a $6/student admission rate). Hours: Closes at 4:00pm Enrichment programs are “hands-on, hands-in” programs designed to give students a unique learning experience about the history of farming and rural life in Iowa. All programs are 3 hours in length (except the Schoolhouse Program) and allow up to 3 adults admitted free of charge, for homeschool groups up to 20 students. Reservations must be made three weeks in advance.
