HIGH POINT AWARD
Clarke (L), Whiting (C) and Lewis (R) led the men’s scoring for five consecutive seasons.
The Pac-12 Championship High Point Award, researched by the Arizona State coaching staff in 2002, annually recognizes the individual efforts of one male and one female student-athlete’s performances at the conference’s outdoor championship meet. The men, competing since 1979, and the women, competing in the event since 1987, have had several outstanding peformers with two leading the pack. Jacquelyn Johnson’s 33.5 points scored at the 2008 meet in Tempe is the highest point total recorded by any Sun Devil at the Pac-10 meet while Dwight Phillips’ score of 26.5 points at the 2000 meet stands as the top score on the men’s side. At the 2012 Championships, Keia Pinnick scored 20.75 points to lead the women in scoring for her first time. On the men’s side, Jordan Clarke was the top Sun Devil scorer for his second year in a row as he netted 24 points, a score that is four points higher than the total that both Ryan Whiting and Jason Lewis each scored in 2010 to lead ASU two years prior. Clarke earned his top spot by winning an individual title in the shot put, taking second in the hammer and was third in the discus. Clarke would go on to earn the Pac-12 Men’s Athlete of the Meet in scoring the most points in the men’s competition.

HALL OF FAME
USTFCCCA COACHES HALL OF FAME
A pair of former Sun Devil coaches have been inducted into the U.S. Track & Field, Cross Country Coaches Association Coaches Hall of Fame following outstanding careers in their profession. The first inductee was 2000 inductee Senon ‘Baldy’ Castillo, who coached the Sun Devil program for 27 years (1953-79). He guided the men’s 1977 team to the NCAA Outdoor title, the first and only team crown in the sport for ASU until the 2007 women swept both titles. His 1963 mile relay team ran 3:04.5 and borke the world record at the time. The late Tom Jones, who coached the Sun Devils from 1988-92 before coaching at Florida and after working with student-athletes at NC State and UTEP, was inducted in 2007. Jones brought in Maicel Malone, who was part of six individual and relay crowns for the Sun Devils and was later selected to the NCAA Division I Silver Anniversary Indoor Team for her dominance in the 400m run (three indoor NCAA titles) after representing Team USA in the Olympics and IAAF World Championship events.
ARIZONA STATE HALL OF FAME
Members of Sun Devil Athletics can be honored in one of two halls of fame: the Hall of Fame and the Hall of Distinction. The Sun Devil track & field/cross country program has had 36 different student-athletes and two coaches enshrined, including the 2010 induction of All-American and Olympic Gold Medalist Dwight Phillips. The Arizona State Hall of Distinction honor is awarded to coaches, administrators and other members of the athletic department. Coaching honors are selected based on the following criteria: development of the program, career record, national titles won, national Top 20 rankings, national achievements, development of national individual champions, Olympians, World, American and/or NCAA record setters and All-Americans. The Arizona State Hall of Fame honor for student-athletes is based upon, but not limited/restricte to the following criteria: All-America honors earned, Olympic medals/Top 8 placements, U.S. Olympic team member or another recognized nation that fields ‘strong’ teams, NCAA champion, NCAA Top 6 finisher, World, American and/or NCAA record-holder, NCAA statistical champion and significant contributions to sports while at Arizona State and after when the above criteria does not apply.
