Janome Supplies Required: • Horizon Memory Craft 9400 QCP • Professional Grade HP Needle plate and foot or • Straight Stitch Needle plate and ¼” Seam foot O • Acufeed foot AD or AcuFeed Ditch Stitch foot • Quilting foot QV (optional) • Quilt bar • Knee Lifter
Border
• Purple Tip needle
• (2) 5.5” x 41” (Attach top and bottom border first)
• Empty bobbin
• (2) 5.5” x 65” (Attach side borders last)
Fabric and notions: • 1 ½ yard sashing fabric to compliment your blocks.
Binding • (6) strips 2.5 x WOF
• ½ yard binding fabric • Backing- 2 yards wide backing or 4 yards 42-44” wide • Total backing needs to be a minimum of 66” x 80”. • Batting – minimum 66” x 80” • Cotton thread to blend with fabric. = Cutting Directions:
Machine Set Up: Sew all seams with your preferred ¼” method. Thread Janome Purple tip needle and bobbin with cotton thread. Option 1: HP needle plate, HP foot, and Quilt stitch #1. Option 2: Straight Stitch Needle plate, ¼ Seam foot O, and Quilt stitch #2.
Sashing
Instructions:
• (8) 2.5” x 12.5” (Attach vertical sashing first to make complete rows containing 3 blocks each)
1. Lay out the blocks in the order you like the best. 3 blocks wide by 4 blocks long.
• (3) 2.5” x 41” (Attach Horizontal sashing in between each row prior to piecing borders)
2. Sew a vertical sash to connect the 3 blocks of each row.

3. Line up the guide with the center of the seam and sew.
5. Sew side borders.
4. Repeat until all seams have been stitched.
6. Sew binding strips together to create one long strip. Press in half lengthwise.
Option 3 - Free Motion Echo Quilting
7. Sandwich top, batting and backing.
Note: Echo quilting is a technique which is used to “echo” the shapes found in quilt blocks. This is a great way to accent appliques or other prominent details.
8. Baste together in your preferred method. 9. Select one of the quilting methods below or choose a technique of your choice. 10. Place binding on the right side of quilt, lining up the raw edges.
11. Sew the binding in place with a ¼” seam allowance.
2. Snap on Quilting foot QV.
12. Fold the binding to the back.
3. One Stitch Stop is automatically on.
13. Stitch in the ditch from the right side.
4. Line up one of the red lines of the foot with the edge of the applique. 5. Start sewing, the machine will take one stitch and stop. Use needle thread to pull the bobbin thread to the top for a clean back.
2. Touch Dual Feed button. 3. Attach Acufeed foot AD. 4. Insert quilt bar and set at 1” from center needle position.
6. Start sewing, moving the fabric in a steady motion following the contour of the applique. 7. When the needle returns to the starting point, line up the red line of the foot to follow the previous line of stitches. 8. Continue on in this manner. Option 4 - Free Motion Quilting – Stippling and Meandering 1. Sewing Applications > Free Quilting Zigzag Stitch 2.

4. Start sewing, the machine will take one stitch and stop. Use needle thread to pull the bobbin thread to the top for a clean back. 5. Move the fabric in a steady motion to create the desired fill.
1. Set machine up for straight line quilting without quilt bar. 2. Attach optional AcuFeed Ditch Stitch foot.
