Hever School Hotline Friday 15th July 2016 Winnie the Pooh Picnic: We would like to thank all the parents, grandparents and friends who attended our fabulous Winnie the Pooh picnic last Friday. Lots of fun was had by all! We shared snacks brought in by parents and staff and enjoyed reading and playing with our favourite teddies. The afternoon was rounded off by the 'big release' of the butterflies which had hatched from their chrysalis into beautiful winged insects under the children's watchful eyes. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! URGENT: Data Collection and Parental Permisson Forms for years R-5: Thank you to all those parents who have signed and returned their forms already! Data collection forms were sent home via the children and the parental permission forms are in the entrance lobby. Please return them to the office asap so that we can ensure all information is up to date in preparation for the new academic year. Reminder: Waitrose ‘Community Matters’ for July 2016: Hever CEP School is one of the nominated recipients of the ‘Community Matters’ scheme for this month. Please ask friends, family (and anyone else!) to collect their green tokens and choose Hever! Reminder: Please remember that we are a nut-free school as we do have a child and a member of staff with nut allergies. Remember to check the contents of any cereal bars or flapjacks to ensure that they adhere to our nut-free policy. Obviously, peanut butter sandwiches are definitely off the menu too. We even ensure that our wildlife are given nut-free birdfood to ensure that there is a reduced risk of an allergic reaction whilst on school premises. We would appreciate your support with this important issue. Kent Young Carers: Kent Young Carers (IMAGO) support children aged 5-18 years who care for a family member (at home or on a regular basis) who has a disability, long term health condition, mental health issue or substance misuse issue. They also support children who have a sibling with a disability, health condition or other issues such as a sibling on the autistic spectrum. Kent Young Carers provide tailored support for the young carer ranging from 1:1 support to social groups and outings as well as assisting with transport costs to secondary school. If you feel that this could be relevant for you or your family you can make a referral yourself by emailing [email protected] or by speaking to Mrs Cooke (SENDCo). News From The Governors: The annual Governors’ Newsletter is now available to read on the Hever School website www.hever.kent.sch.uk in the ‘Meet the Governors’ section. Sadly, Annabel Lark has recently stepped down after 10 years as a School Governor - most of that time as Chair of Governors. She has been instrumental in bringing the school to the positive position in which we now find ourselves and we are so grateful for all that she has done and for her dedication to the staff and pupils. We are thrilled that Annabel will remain involved as an Associate Governor for the near future. News From The Friends of Hever: The Friends have a special voucher for two players to play 18 holes of golf at Hever Golf Course, plus 2 Guests to join them for a two course carvery lunch. The Friends have suggested that any interested parties should email a price that they would be happy to pay and the highest bidder will receive the voucher. Please email [email protected] by Wednesday 20th July.

Hever School Bags for Life: If you would like to purchase one of the gorgeous illustrated Hever School bags for life (as designed by the children from each class), please make payment using PMX in the School Shop or send payment to the school. The bags cost £4 each – a veritable bargain!

End of Term Party: Some of the parents have arranged a fun end of term party at the Edenbridge Recreation Ground (by the Rugby club) from 4.00-8.00pm on Thursday 21st July. Bring your own refreshments and games - stay a little or a lot. All children and families welcome! (See attached flyer.) Pirates of the Curry Bean: Just to let you know that all the tickets for the Wednesday evening performance have now gone! However, there are plenty of spare ones for the Tuesday afternoon performance so please ask if you would like some. Oak Class Residential for June 2017: We are thrilled to confirm that our planned trip to JCA Croft Farm Activity Centre is now booked and everyone in the class will be taking part. The payment plan will be set up on PMX in the next few days. The deposit of £50 per child is due by Thursday 21st July in order for us to benefit from an early bird discount. You can choose to pay by PMX or send in cash or a cheque made payable to Hever C of E Primary School. The cost per child will therefore increase if deposits are not received by the end of this term. The next payment will be due in September and then monthly from October 2016 – April 2017. Parents may pay in larger instalments if they prefer. Elm Class Residential for June 2017: As advised in a previous hotline, for the first time we are planning for our Elm class children (those currently in years 2 and 3) to have a three night residential stay at the Broadstone Warren Activity Centre in the Ashdown Forest. And finally… Our ‘Christian Value of the Week’ is Endurance (also known as Perseverance). This is about keeping going when life is difficult or painful. In the Old Testament there are promises for those who persevere: 'The Lord gives strength to those who are weary... Those who trust the Lord will find new strength. They will be strong like eagles, soaring up on wings; they will walk and run without getting tired.' Isaiah 40:29-31
