how to grow healthy citrus Citrus grow so well in our climate that we can have fresh fruit almost all year round.
step 1
prepare
• Dig in some compost or well-aged manure. Choose a sunny spot with well drained soil. • Plant dwarf citrus in a large pot.
TIP: Many citrus are grafted onto a dwarfing rootstock such as Flying Dragon. Check the label.
step 2
feed
• Citrus are very hungry plants. Feed at least twice a year, in early spring and late summer. • Feed with Yates Dynamic Lifter Organic Plant Food. TIP: For an added nutrient boost, feed with Yates Uplift Organic Liquid Fertiliser every two weeks during the growing season.
step 3
harvest
• T aste-test citrus fruit to check and see if they’re ready to eat. • Eureka lemons will continue to produce ripe fruit throughout the year. TIP: Thinning excess fruit when they’re small will encourage larger fruit to develop.
step 4
protect
• Well-fed citrus aren’t often troubled by pests and diseases. • Keep a good layer of organic mulch over the root area but don’t let it contact the trunk. TIP: PestOil will provide protection from most citrus pests.
