!1 Hopewell Soccer Club Player Development Program

Practice/Game Structure SAQ/ABC

The Importance of Speed, Agility, Quickness, Balance & Coordination An important part of physical literacy that is the foundation for all motor skills to be learnt and achieved.

SAQ and ABC will be a compulsory part of the Hopewell Soccer Club Development Program, incorporating 15 Minutes within each practice.

U5 (ViKing Premiere) Structure for U5 will be as follows: U5 teams (groups) will be set at the beginning of the season. With a coach to child ratio of 1:8 maximum per group for play on Saturdays. (players may be moved out of necessity) Weekday Practice Sessions will be as follows: Premiere will run Tuesday’s from 6-7:00pm Premiere practice will have ten minutes of SAQ, followed by a twenty-minute skill practice with a YesSoccer trainer, concluding with a twenty-minute scrimmage in their set teams refereed by coaches, or club trainers. Part 1: SAQ Warm Up (10 Minutes) Part 2: Skill Game (10 Minutes) Part 3: Skill Game (10 Minutes) Part 4: Scrimmage (20 Minutes) Saturday Game Schedules will be posted at HopewellSoccer.com along with email notification prior to the season. Games will be played 4v4 no goalie, game lengths will be 3 x 10 minute periods.

U7 (Jr Champions League) Structure for U7 will be as follows: U7 groups will be organized in the first few weeks of the season (allowing for proper placement). With a licensed coach to child ratio of 1:12 maximum per group for play on Saturdays. Weekday Practice Sessions will be as follows: Jr Practices will run Wednesday’s from 6-730pm Jr practice will have fifteen minutes of SAQ, followed by a thirty-minute skill practice with a YesSoccer trainer, concluding with a twenty-five-minute scrimmage in their set groups refereed by coaches, or club trainers. Part 1: SAQ Warm Up (15 Minutes) Part 2: Skill Game (15 Minutes) Part 3: Skill Game (15 Minutes) Part 4: Scrimmage (25 Minutes) ALL players should arrive on Saturday Mornings at 10:30am, games will commence at 11am following a 15minute SAQ Warm Up with a Coach and Player Check-ins by our In-House Referee. Games will be played 5v5 including a goalie, game lengths will be 2 x 20 minute halves.

U9 (Coppa Hopewell) Structure for U9 will be as follows: U9 groups will be organized in the first few weeks of the season (allowing for proper placement). With a licensed coach to child ratio of 1:16 maximum per group for play on Saturdays.. Prior to practice starting, players that turn up early can play ‘pick up’ soccer until the session is ready to start. Do not instruct the kids, let them sort themselves out with pinnies and teams. Let them play! Weekday Practice Sessions will be as follows: Coppa Practices will run Thursday’s from 6-7:45pm. Coppa practice will have fifteen minutes of SAQ, followed by a forty five-minute skill practice with a YesSoccer trainer, concluding with a thirty-minute instructional scrimmage refereed by club coaches or club referees. Part 1: SAQ Warm Up (15 Minutes) Part 2: Skill Game (15 Minutes) Part 3: Skill Game (15 Minutes) Part 4: Skill Game (15 Minutes) Part 5: Scrimmage (30 Minutes) ALL players should arrive on Saturday Mornings at 8:30am, games will commence at 9am following a 15minute SAQ Warm Up with a Coach and Player Checkins by our In-House Referee. Games will be played 7v7 including a goalie, game lengths will be 2 x 25 minute halves.

Scrimmage Structure How many aside U5 - 4v4 maximum. (NO GOALIE) U7 – 4v4 maximum. (NO GOALIE) U9 – 7v7 including goalkeepers for U9.

How long U5- 20 minutes long, consisting of (2) two, ten minute halves. U7 - 25 minutes long, consisting of (2) two, twelve minute halves. U9 - 30 Minutes long, consisting (2) two, fifteen minute halves.

Introduction to basic positioning (U5-U7 ONLY) It will be explained to the U5-U7 that their playing shape is a diamond. With position names as follows: Striker

We will implement the “Retreat Rule” Upon the opposition having a goal kick, your team must retreat to the half way line. This allows the other team to play out and get the game restarted. Field/Goal dimensions U5 - goals: Pug goals or similar - field 25x30 yards max U7 - goals: Bigger than pug goals, smaller than U10 goals -field 30x35 max U9 -goals: Regulation U10 goals - field 45x60 max The U9 program will play within the dimensions of the U10 Field.

At the U9 Age Group there is a huge lack of understanding for game rules, field layout, and game structure. To try and make the transition smoother we will replicate those that they will go on to play when they leave In-House Soccer.

Hopewell Soccer Club/BC United Affiliate Player Development Program Players will follow BC United’s FUNdamental approach to learning new core motor skills at the HSC Development program. Building agility, balance and coordination by playing fun games that disguise their technical soccer development. Sparking a love for the sport to promote life-long enjoyment and physical activity, while getting them ready for the next phase of development.

Weekly topics will be chosen by our YesSoccer Trainers. They will be put into action and assisted by our Coaches each week.
