The 2014 HVAC Apprentice Contest offers HVAC apprentices a unique opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a practical, hands-on event that is fun and exciting for everyone involved. The HVAC Apprentice Contest will be held in conjunction with the PHCC Convention–CONNECT The Thursday portion of the contest will take place in the center of the tradeshow floor. Contestant Sponsors ($2,500)

Headline Sponsors ($5,000) (Maximum 8) These sponsors will support the contest directly by helping to offset our costs for space, shipping, and labor. They will also sponsor one contestant. Included in this sponsorship, we will promote our sponsors with the following: • Logo placed prominently on the front page of the brochure that is sent out to all PHCC members. • Logo placed prominently on HVAC Apprentice Contest page of PHCC website. • Promotion of sponsors in all event communication before and after the event (frequent mentions in PHCC Online weekly newsletter, press releases, etc.). • Onsite signage throughout the contest area in addition to onsite signage on the bench of the sponsored contestant.

These sponsors will fund the travel (airfare, hotel, food, shipping of tools, etc.) and contest fees for one apprentice to compete this year. Materials Materials sponsors provide much needed equipment and supplies to be used in the contest. We will promote these sponsors with the following: • Promotion of sponsors in event communication following the event (press releases, etc.). • Onsite signage including the company’s logo. • Opportunity to provide logoed items (hand tools, t-shirts, hats, etc.) to all contestants in their goody bags.

Prizes Prize sponsors provide prizes of tools and other goods/incentives for the top 3 finishers in the HVAC apprentice contest. We will promote these sponsors with the following: • Promotion of sponsors in event communication following the event (press releases, etc.). • Onsite signage including the company’s logo.

What the Contestants Will Do: Contestants are required to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in six technical areas. • Brazing - Contestants will assemble a mockup of a complete refrigeration system and will assemble a representation of the complete refrigeration cycle. • Pressure Test, Leak Test & Pull a Vacuum – Contestants will perform a pressure test and leak test and will pull a vacuum on the mockup assembled in the brazing portion of the contest. They will also demonstrate proper recovery procedures. • Taking Readings – Contestants will take a full set of readings on a functioning package unit and will measure airflow, static pressure, and capacity from the package unit. • Electrical Diagnostics – Contestants will perform a hands-on diagnostic and repair on an operational package unit. • Basic Electrical Skills – Contestants will assemble components into a functional circuit. • Written Test – Contestants will take a written test evaluating their knowledge of HVAC systems.
