Hyde Community College Newsletter – March 2015 Dear Parents and Carers, As we approach the end of the Spring term I would like to thank the fabulous students at Hyde for all their hard work and enthusiasm over the last few months. Year 11 are knuckling down to revision and exam preparation and it’s a delight to see so many of them taking advantage of all the before and after school classes that their teachers are offering – the hard work will pay off on results day in August! This term we have seen wonderful literary characters around school on World Book Day and lots of students making their faces funny for money for Comic Relief. There have been some outstanding sporting achievements too with Hyde students successful in representing both Tameside and Greater Manchester. Thank you so much for all your continued support, for your children and for our school.

Andrea Radcliffe, Headteacher Holiday Revision for Year 11:

There are a large number of extra classes taking place during the holiday for Year 11 - please see the school website for further details. Students must only come into school to attend a lesson and must be with a member of staff at all times.

Medicines in school

If your child needs to take medicine in school, please make sure that you send written permission stating what time it needs to be taken and how much. Without this we cannot administer the medicine to your child. Many thanks!

Our Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 teams both achieved second place in the Tameside table tennis competition. In the indoor athletics competition Off the Blocks our Year 8 girls claimed third place and the boys came first! The boys then went on to represent Tameside at the Greater Manchester Competition and came first overall - very well done! In volleyball our girls were placed second and the boys first in both age groups; the boys will now represent Tameside at the Greater Manchester Summer Games. Hyde's boys' Junior Badminton team achieved first place in their competition and the girls third place. The boys' team then came second in the Greater Manchester Championships. The girls' rowing team represented Tameside at the Greater Manchester Games and were placed third overall.

On March 18th we organised and hosted a very successful primary dodgeball competition for 8 teams. We had over 80 pupils from 8 different primary schools along with many of their staff and parents who came to watch. March 17th saw our girls put up a very good fight in the Tameside Year 7 Netball tournament. Eight Tameside teams took part and we just missed out on the medals in 4th position. On 25th March we held a primary football competition; 16 teams took part including girls' and a boy' teams from the following schools, Greenfield, Flowery Field, Gee Cross Holy Trinity, Godley, Leigh, Dowson, St Paul's and St George's. In total there were an amazing 128 pupils taking part and over 50 staff and parents watching! The proud girls' winners were Dowson and for the boys, Gee Cross. The following day we also hosted the Tameside Primary Volleyball competition. We had 14 teams including three teams from Gee Cross Holy Trinity, two from St Peters, Pinfold, Holden Clough and Our Lady’s from Ashton. St Peter's from Stalybridge and a team from Linden Road also took part. 84 pupils in total enthusiastically supported by staff and parents. A huge thank you to Mrs Garside, Mr Dolan and the PE team for all the time spent organising and supervising activities and to the Hyde students who regularly help out with running competitions. An enormous WELL DONE to all the students involved in the above events and to all those who regularly take part in sporting activities for the school. What an amazingly talented team of young people! Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter; we wish you an enjoyable holiday and look forward to working with you in the new term.
