8.18 Making Claims To: Jack Tourban, Marketing Director, Lamin-X Adhesive From: Jesse Tillotson Date: October 8, 2014 Subject: Refund purchase price due to poor quality
Hello Jack:
I would like to receive a refund due to the poor quality of the headlight covers that I recently purchased from your company. One week ago I received a set of your headlight covers that I had purchased for my Subaru Impreza. The descriptions online suggested that the covers were an exact fit to the headlights, but I found otherwise. I set aside two hours to install them, which according to you installation instructions should have been plenty of time. After spending almost the entire two hours attempting to correctly line up the first cover, I came to the conclusion that the cover was cut incorrectly for the headlight’s shape. To check my assumption, I attempted to line up the second cover on the other light and found the same problem. I was not able to correctly apply them to my headlights, and now they sit unusable. I paid $54.99(not including taxes) and hope that you will show enough understanding to refund the full amount. I also hope you will remedy the poor product quality issue for future customers.
Thank you and best wishes,
Jesse Tillotson

9.13 Writing a Sales Letter for Your Computer Store
To: Valued Customers From: Jesse Tillotson, Marketing Director, Bengal Technology Inc. Date: 8/10/14 Subject: PC’s For the Diploma!
Hello All Idaho State University Students!
You have probably seen many of your friends and fellow students buying Mac products lately. They say that Mac is all the rage, but there are a few problems for students that use Mac’s rather than PC’s. Some of the specialty programs that are needed for many university classes are either not available on Mac operating system, or are much more expensive to purchase. These extra costs and hoops to jump through can be avoided by simply strolling into our campus computer store (or simply visiting our online store) to view the great deals we offer on PC’s. These PC’s not only run any important program needed for school, but some of them even come equipped with these programs! Mac’s run anywhere from $600 all the way to $1500 for deluxe models. However, at our store, you can purchase the best PC laptops for as low as $400(deluxe models up to $800). All of these PC’s are able to run any program needed for your classes, ensuring your peace of mind and saving you hundreds of dollars! Come on into Bengal Technology Inc. located at 735 4th Avenue and see the amazing deals we offer on the best PC products! We are so confident in our products that a one year any-damage warranty will be included with any PC purchased on or before August 24th!
Good luck this year!

10.8 Writing a Bad News Message About Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot To: Valued Employees of Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot From: Nick Jensen, Management, Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot Date: 8/10/14 Subject: Potential Change in Operations
Dear Mr. Jensen:
I would like to extend to you my sincerest appreciation for the opportunity you have given me to become a manager of your company. The company’s strong performance over the years is to thank for the Tuition Reimbursement Program that helps many of our employees finish school while continuing their job with us. Our business to business hardware sales are a strong as ever, and we are always looking to find way to improve. Unfortunately, our chemical division has not been performing as well. In fact, last year we lost nearly $200,000 in our chemical division and it looks to get even worse. For this reason, I feel that the best course of action would be to sell the chemicals division to a bigger regional company. According to my calculations, we would be able to sell the division for around $500,000. Currently the division is under about $740,000 in debt, however, if we waited to act our financial position would likely get much worse. The remaining debt from the sale will soon be covered by our profits from our strong hardware division. Additionally, ten loyal employees would need to be laid off once the division is sold, which I will personally handle with the utmost care and sensitivity. I truly feel that this is our only viable option to remedy our current situation. If we do not take action, the company could be gone within five years. I hope you are doing well and look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,
Nick Jensen Management
[email protected] 10.10 Writing a Bad News Announcement to all Former Elite Customers explaining the elimination of the program To: Members of the Elite Customer Program From: Nick Jensen, Management, Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot Date: 8/10/14 Subject: Upcoming Program Changes
Dear Valued Members:
Our entire company, and myself, alike wish to extend to you our heartfelt appreciation for being a part of the Elite Customer Program. As you know, the program offers 10% off to all customers who spent $1,000 or more during the year previous. This program has certainly been popular and we at Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot have been happy to give back a little to our faithful customers. During the last decade our country has faced some tough economic times which has affected everyone including our strong company. Regrettably, after this rewards cycle has ended, we will no longer be continuing with the Elite Customer Program. We do not wish to do so, but it is our last resort to find a way to maintain services to you, our great customers. We want to remind you that your current year’s discount still applies, and if you meet the $1,000 mark, you will receive the 10% discount for next year as well. Also included with this message is a 20% off coupon to any single purchase in the store. Again, all of us here at Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot extend our most sincere apology for having to end this wonderful program. We will strive to make this up to you by providing the best service and products at the best prices possible.
Thank you for your understanding,
Nick Jensen Management
