We’ve all had that “holy crap, what does the rest of my life look like?” moment. We ask ourselves about decisions before we make them, then question them constantly until eventually the programmed answers to the common ones are what we stick to. They bring comfort, so we already have the answers before the conversation starts. “My major is…” “I’m a member of…” “I’m in [fraternity/sorority].” With everyone we meet on campus, on every first day of class with all-too-social professors, at every awards banquet — we’re programmed to answer and ask right back. We get tired of it, but how else can we find common ground with someone on a campus of over 25,000 students and faculty? These questions are the ones that divide K-State into subgroups, identifiers. Whether it’s a major, club, sports team, shared class or an on-campus job, the answers to the get-to-knowyou questions are what give us a sense of identity and prevent us from becoming student number 15,583. It’s being one small number in that larger K-State Family that connects us with those outside of our

identifiers. K-State in and of itself is a binding factor.
