Poster Presenter Resources Congratulations on being selected to present your abstract as a printed poster at IFT17. Each year thousands of individuals view our poster sessions. Below you’ll find some frequently asked questions on presenting a poster at IFT. If you have additional questions, please contact [email protected]. Examples and tips for creating effective posters: The Colorado State University Writing Studio has a plethora of helpful hints and suggestions available to the public for developing poster presentations. Citation: Kate Kiefer, Mike Palmquist, Luann Barnes, Marilyn Levine, and Don Zimmerman. (1994 - 2012). Poster Sessions. Writing@CSU. Colorado State University. It was developed for the ACRL Arts Section / Instruction Section, 2007 Conference Program, ALA, Washington, D.C. Poster Presenter FAQs: What should I prepare for my poster presentation? You must provide an abstract of your paper and illustrations in a size and format suitable for poster display. It is also suggested that you prepare brief statements of the purpose of your work, your experimental methodology and design, and the major results of your findings and their implications. The resource above through the Colorado State University Writing Studio provides some great best practices for formatting your poster. Abstracts and illustrations must be readable from distances of 3 ft. or more. Text should be printed from a laser printer, in a font size large enough to read from that distance. Keep illustrations simple. Limited use of color, however, can add emphasis. Any photograph should be a minimum of 8 in. x 10 in. Minimum size for all other illustrations is 9 in. x 12 in. Illustrations should not be mounted on heavy boards or backing, as they will not be supported by the Velcro "dots." NOTE: you are not presenting orally unless directly indicated through email by IFT.

How should I mount my poster? IFT will provide a 4 ft. tall x 8 ft. wide poster board. See picture for an example of a poster display board. “Dots” with adhesive on one side and Velcro on the other will also be provided, as will signage with your paper number indicating which poster board to hang your poster. You will need to have your poster abstract number onsite with you to find your poster board. You will receive an email prior to IFT17 with your final poster abstract number (6 digit number with a dash after the first three numbers ex. 123-456). Disclaimer: IFT is not responsible for any lost or damaged posters. Any poster not removed by the end of tear down after each session will be discarded. If you wish to keep your poster, please be sure to remove and take it with you before the end of your tear down time noted above. When can I set up my poster onsite at IFT17? Poster presenters can begin setting up 30 minutes before the start of their scheduled posters session. IFT staff members and student monitors will be available during set-up to provide authors with materials for mounting data and illustrations. Find your poster session time below to see when you can set up and tear down your poster:

Do I have to stay with my poster for the full poster session? All posters must remain on display for the duration of the poster session. Posters must be attended by the author/s for the first hour of the poster session, at minimum. What if I have two posters to present in one time slot? If you are scheduled to present two posters during one time period we ask that you split your time between the two papers or invite another author to present one of your posters. When can I remove my poster? Once your poster session concludes you can begin to remove your poster. Tear-down must be completed no later than 30 minutes after the poster session has ended. If you want to keep your poster you must take it down within 30 minutes after the poster session has ended. Posters left up after the tear-down period will be removed for disposal. IFT is not responsible for any lost or damaged posters. I accepted my invitation to present, but must withdraw. Now what? If you are unable to present, please email [email protected] with your rationale, prior to the scheduled presentation time. You may also visit the Speaker Room: Bassano 2702 on-site to explain. Individuals scheduled to present a poster, who do not show nor communicate a planned absence, will not be considered for presentation at IFT for the next consecutive three years. Do I have to register for IFT17? Yes, all presenters must pay the appropriate IFT Member of Non-member registration fee. Click here to register. IFT does not register presenters – you must register yourself and secure your own housing. IFT does not reimburse presenters for travel, hotel, or other expenses incurred during IFT17.
