Immigrants in the California Bay Area 2015 Most Common World Region of Birth for Immigrants The map to the left presents the most common world region of birth Living in the California Bay Area for immigrants living in the Census tracts of the California Bay Area. The largest group of immigrants in the California Bay Area are from Central America and Southeast and East Asia. For example, the largest group of immigrants living in Napa (63 percent), Sonoma (55 percent), Contra Costa (27 percent), Alameda (20 percent), Santa Clara (20 percent), San Mateo (19 percent), and Marin (18 percent) are from Mexico. Within Santa Clara County more than half (57 percent) of immigrants are from Southeast Asia (e.g. Philippines and Vietnam), East Asia (e.g. China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan), and South Central Asia (e.g. India). Similarly, immigrants from China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Mexico comprise more than half of immigrants living in the county of San Francisco. The table below shows the race and ethnicity among immigrants living in the California Bay Area by county. The largest group of immigrants living in Solano (44 percent), Santa Clara (42 percent), Alameda (36 percent), San Mateo (29 percent), and Contra Costa (27 percent) identify as other Asian or Pacific Islander (non Hispanic). However, 40 percent of immigrants living in San Francisco identify as Chinese (non Hispanic), 38 percent of immigrants living in Marin identify as White (non Hispanic), 37 percent of immigrants in Napa identify as White (Hispanic), and 32 percent of immigrants living in Sonoma identify as other race (Hispanic).
