The Importance of Reading Logs
Remember… 1. The reading log is to be filled out NIGHTLY, and is collected MONTHLY.
Our Class Reading Logs Every student has a reading log in the front of their folders, but what are you to do with them? As stated in our class newsletter, reading is extremely important for the success of your scholar. A reading log will be placed in the front of your child’s school folder every month. Apart of your and your scholar’s NIGHTLY homework is to ensure our scholars are being read age appropriate material for at least 15 minutes. Please record the title of what was read and the duration of time spent on the log NIGHTLY. I do check the logs daily, however, they are only collected and credit for completing given monthly.

SELECT A TIME TO READ
WHAT TO READ
TALK ABOUT IT
Pick a time when an adult is available to take our scholars on a trip through literature.
Pick their favorite children’s book one day and the newspaper the next. Let’s expand their horizons & switch it up!
Before, during, & after reading. Ask what your scholar thinks & make predictions. Ensure they understand.

2. Diversify reading materials. Students don't have to read Newsday but they should be exposed to it. Expand your child’s mind and teach them about the world in which they line. 3. Have fun! This is great bonding time. Enjoy it and happy reading 4. Scholastic Book orders will be collected monthly. This will allow you to add to your scholar’s personal library. If you do not have reading materials please contact me as soon as possible.
