IN IT TO WIN IT

They have different names (traditionalist, builders, silent, busters, boomers, gen x, gen y, me generation, etc.). Each generation has distinct characteristics and experiences that shape and color the way they view the world. It is easy enough for each generation to see the shortcoming and failings of the others. As the family of God, those who have been made One (see Galatians 3:26-29; Romans 12:1-8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-31). What responsibility do you have to the next generation of believers? 1. What are some of the ways your generation is described (feel free to look up this information in the way your generation feels most comfortable)? Do you think these generalizations are accurate? Fair? 2. When you were growing up were those who influenced you focused more on improving the standard of living or improving the standard for living? 3. How are you modeling trust in the Lord for the next generation? 4. What are some ways you consciously seek to submit to the Lord’s will? How do you let the next generation know of this decision? How can you both be “light” and submissive? 5. How do you honor the Lord with your resources? Many see time as being as precious as material possessions – how do you honor God with your resources?

6. Of those coming behind you (the next generation), in whom do you need to invest? How can this CG help you?

These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. ~ Moses to the Nation of Israel (Deuteronomy 6:1-9) My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. ~ Solomon (Proverbs 3:1-10)
