Job Purpose: A focus for Wellington Hockey is to increase the number and quality of umpires supporting small sticks and secondary school hockey. To achieve this outcome, Wellington Hockey is looking to appoint three (3) Umpire Mentors who will be based at the following venues to complete umpire observations & provide regular feedback to small sticks and secondary school umpires. •

National Hockey Stadium – Newtown (2 roles)



Kapiti Hockey Turf – Paraparaumu (1 role)

Main Objectives: •

To complete observations using the Capital Hockey log book with ten targeted umpires



To provide feedback to umpires (post observations) to support ongoing development



To mentor other umpires (selected by Wellington Hockey) to perform observations using the Capital Hockey workbook

Requirements: 1. Umpire Mentors will complete a half-day course facilitated by Wellington Hockey prior to completing umpire observations;

2. Umpire Mentors will complete up to 30 observations* throughout the small sticks and secondary season during the scheduled playing dates and times listed below;

*It is intended that each Umpire Mentor will complete three observations (and log book entries) with 10 targeted umpires at various points throughout the season

3. Umpire Mentors will submit completed umpire observation notes and log books to Wellington Hockey on a weekly basis

Person Specifications: •

At least 3 years’ open grade hockey umpiring experience



An understanding of the Wellington Hockey small sticks and secondary competition handbooks



An ability to work with others (particularly youth)
