For the place of death: – Index the county name (without the word “county”) in the Death County field. – Index the city, town, or village name (without the words “city,” “town,” or “village”) in the Death City or Town field. • If a city and village were both recorded, index the name of the city in this field. • If a city, town, or village was not recorded, but a township was, index the township name in this field, excluding the word "township" or any abbreviation of it, such as "twp.”

For the place of birth: – Index the city, town, or village in the Birth City or Town field following the same rules as for the Death City or Town field. In addition: • If no city, town, village, or township was recorded, but a birth county was, index the county in this field.
