An Indian lad ies’ team , led by B achendri Pal, clim bed the norm al route from the M am ostong G lacier, crossing the 5885-m eter M am ostong col and up the east ridge. The sum m it (7516 m eters, 24,650 feet) was reached from C am p IV at 6700 m eters by 15 clim bers, all on A ugust 15, in three groups. The first sum m it party consisting o f D eepu Sharm a, K unga B hutia, A nita Devi and H arsha Panw ar was accom panied by instructor R ajeev Sharm a and Sherpas K ushang and N adre. T hey reached the top at one P.M. Sarla N egi, R adha D evi, Dickey D olm a, Bim la N egi and instructor Baldev K anw ar got to the sum m it at two P.M. Sum an K utiyal and Savita M artolia sum m ited at 2:30 P.M. w ith porter Vijay Singh. A fourth attem pt was thw arted by bad weather.
