WEEKEND SNAPSHOT Indiana aims to defend their four-game winning streak and unbeaten home start as they host their first game of their Big Ten schedule this weekend. After starting the season with three ranked oppoents out of conference, the Hoosiers are geared up for a tester with the top-10 Terrapins. After that, they’ll play host to an annual in-state clash with the Ball State Cardinals. These games are crucial, as they set up a five-game stretch away from home. Both games will have the BTN Student U treatment, streaming live on BTN2Go.

CORNER HITS HOME SWEET HOME
The Hoosiers rolled through the opening weekend of their home schedule with two victories at the IU Field Hockey Complex, dropping Central Michigan 4-1 before triumphing in overtime against Miami, 3-2. Maddie Latino led the attack with four goals in total, and four different Hoosiers netted goals from penalty corners against the Chippewas. It’s the first time since Amanda Janney’s arrival in Bloomington that Indiana won their first two home games of the year.
HOOSIER HAT TRICK HEROES
The last two weekends, Indiana has seen superlative performances from two of their top attackers, Ciara Girouard and Maddie Latino. Girouard registered her first career hat trick at Villanova and won the following Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor. Latino answered the next weekend, scoring all of IU’s goals with a hat trick against Miami and winning that week’s Big Ten Offensive Player of the week award. This is the first time in IU Field Hockey history that Hoosierswon back-to-back offensive conference weekly honors. Latino and Girouard both rank in the national top 20 for scoring average (0.83/game).
MEETING MARYLAND
The Hoosiers square off for their fourth all-time meeting, all as conference foes. The Terps have won all three meetings, the last two taking place in College Park. The closest clash of the series came in 2015, when Maryland pulled out a 1-0 overtime win that featured 16 saves by Hoosier keeper Noëlle Rother.
The Terrapins are off to a 3-2 start, most recently topping No. 11 Louisville 1-0 at home. Their defender, Bodil Keus, is the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the decisive goal against Louisville while allowing just one shot on goal.
CLASH WITH THE CARDINALS
Indiana returns to the turf on Sunday to face Ball State, their in-state counterpart in Division-I field hockey. The Hoosiers are 11-5 in the overall series and have won the last three games against the Cardinals, most recently by a score of 4-2 in 2015.

The last time Indiana had back-to-back weekends with two home games was in 2014. The Hoosiers faced three ranked teams in that stretch (No. 15 Michigan, No. 5 Duke, No. 20 Michigan State), pulling out the upset against Duke and Michigan State. The Hoosiers are unbeaten this season (3-0) in games tied at halftime and have yet to lose (4-0) in the month of September Friday’s game vs. Maryland will have a limited supply headband giveaway. Sunday’s game vs. Ball State will promote “Greening Cream & Crimson”, an initiative designed to improve sustainability across IU Athletics. Up Next: Indiana hits the road for a two-game weekend in New Jersey. The Hoosiers face No. 24 Rutgers on Friday, September 22 at 3:00 p.m. before taking on Monmouth on Sunday, September 24 at noon. The game against Rutgers will air on BTN Plus, and Sunday’s game versus Monmouth will stream on ESPN3.

In her first two seasons at Indiana, head coach Amanda Janney has developed and produced the Hoosiers’ second-ever AllAmerican first team selection (Kate Barber, 2016), the second goalkeeper named to the All-Big Ten first team in program history (Noëlle Rother, 2016), Indiana’s first winning Big Ten record since 2009, and the Big Ten’s best defense in terms of team saves. In total, Janney’s players have earned six All-Big Ten selections, 24 Academic All-Big Ten honors, 24 NFHCA AllAcademic accolades, and 10 Big Ten weekly honors. The 2016 season saw a continued push towards Janney’s goals for Indiana field hockey, which was evident in her eightplayer recruiting class. Two of those players—Ciara Girouard and Kelsey Giese—started all 20 games in their freshman seasons, while Andi Jackson worked her way into the lineup by the end of the year. But the group pacing the team was a deeply talented senior quartet of Kate Barber, Morgan Dye, Malia Fujisawa, and Mollie Getzfread. Barber led the way with school records for goals (18) and points (40) on the way to a first team All-American selection, the first in over 10 years for Indiana (Kayla Bashore, 2005). Sophomore Noëlle Rother led the Big Ten between the pipes to receive first team All-Big Ten honors, along with an NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week award. The 2016 team achieved their second consecutive trip to the Big Ten Field Hockey Championships, a feat they last achieved in a three-year run from 2011 to 2013. Along the way they posted three regular season shutouts, upset No. 6 Northwestern at home before upending No. 12 Michigan on the road, and amassed valiant comeback attempts against No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 6 Penn State, and the eventual NCAA Champion Delaware Blue Hens. In 2015, Janney’s first season with Indiana, the Hoosiers improved by four wins in the Big Ten conference, setting a new school record with five wins against Big Ten teams. Indiana improved from an eighth-place finish in 2014 to take the third seed in the 2015 Big Ten Tournament. Three Hoosiers—Kate Barber (First Team-unanimous), Sydney Supica (Second Team), and Noëlle Rother (Second Team)—earned All-Big Ten and All-NFHCA All-West Region accolades. In addition Barber received All-American honors from the NFHCA and Synapse Sports, the first All-American Hoosier since Audra Heilman (2013).

Season highlights in 2015 include the Hoosiers’ weekend sweep against Iowa and Northwestern, both ranked in the national top20; a 3-0 road win at Ohio State, the Hoosiers’ first shutout over the Buckeyes in program history; a home 1-0 win over Penn State, won on a last-second penalty corner goal before halftime; a 1-0 overtime loss at Maryland, where Indiana held the sixth-ranked Terrapins scoreless for 77 minutes; and a 2-0 win against Rutgers on Senior Day to clinch the program record for single-season Big Ten wins. Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass announced the hiring of Temple University Head Coach Amanda Janney as the new head coach of the Indiana field hockey program on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015. Joining the Hoosiers after 10 years as the head coach at Temple, Janney had compiled a 114-94 record with 10 straight postseason appearances. In 2014, Janney led the Owls to a No. 11 NCAA RPI ranking and a finish of No. 14 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll. At Temple, Janney took over a team that had not turned in a winning record since 1992 and transformed it into a consistently successful program. In those 10 seasons, Janney coached five Atlantic 10 Players of the Year, 23 All-Conference selections, three All-Americans, three Temple Student-Athletes of the Year and 16 Regional All-Americans. “We are thrilled to have Amanda Janney as the new leader of Indiana field hockey,” Glass said. “On the field, in the classroom, and in the community, Amanda’s track record as the head coach at Temple is extraordinary. Known as an elite recruiter and talent developer, we believe we have hired one of the great field hockey coaches in the country.” Janney was selected as head coach after a comprehensive national search led by Glass who worked in consultation with the Search Advisory Committee, consisting of key administrators, support staff, along with team captain Nicole Volgraf (2011-15) and defender Malia Fujisawa (2013-present), who served as the student-athlete representatives to the committee. Glass and the
committee reviewed dozens of potential candidates, performed extensive research and reference checks on a handful or so, and had four candidates, including Amanda, on campus to interview with Glass and the committee. After a thorough review, Glass made the decision to hire Janney as head coach. Upon her appointment as head coach, Janney stated her excitement about the opportunity to coach at Indiana and in one of the nation’s elite conferences. “I want to thank Fred Glass and the administration for this amazing opportunity,” said Janney. “I am already so impressed with the team leaders, the IU field hockey alumni, and the Spirit of Indiana. I am ready to lead IU field hockey and compete in the Big Ten, one of the best conferences in the country.” Janney played collegiately at Wake Forest University, scoring 21 goals and tallying 17 assists as a center forward while graduating Cum Laude in Sociology. As a member of the USA Indoor National Team, she earned a gold medal at the Women’s National Indoor Championship in 2010. “Growing up in Philadelphia, I loved watching Coach Janney’s Temple teams play,” said studentathlete Search Advisory Committee representative Nicole Volgraf. “On her interview, she lit up the room with her passion and unbelievable drive. She is just the coach that IU field hockey needs to go to the next level.” Prior to joining the Owls, Janney spent two years as the First Assistant Coach at the University of Pennsylvania, leading the team to a 23-12 overall record and a 2004 Ivy League Championship. She also spent the 2002 season as the Second Assistant Coach at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Additionally, Janney currently serves as a coach of the USFHA Midwest High Performance site. She has also coached the USFHA Pennsylvania and New Jersey High Performance teams, leading the Pennsylvania team to a USFHA Women’s National Championship in June of 2014.

Indiana field hockey coach Amanda Janney announced on May 2, 2017 the addition of Catherine Ostoich to her coaching staff. Ostoich, who comes to Indiana after one season as the head coach at Missouri State, will join the Hoosiers as an assistant coach. Janney believes Indiana’s newest coach, who specializes in the defensive end, will bring an aggressive style of play to all areas of the turf.

“Catherine brings great coaching and playing experience to our program,” Janney said. “I know she is going to bring passion and energy to strengthen our defense. She is an excellent role model for our student-athletes and I’m excited for her to start and help us better prepare for the fall season.” Most recently, Ostoich completed her first year as a Division-I head coach at Missouri State in the 2016 fall season. She guided two players to All-MAC team selections and the Bears placed 11 athletes on the NFHCA’s National Academic Squad. “She has a ton of potential to help take our Hoosiers team to the next level,” Janney added. Ostoich entered coaching immediately after graduating from the University of Richmond, serving one season as the head coach at Lower Merion High School (Ardmore, Pa.). At the same time, Ostoich began working as a camp manager for World Camp USA, an effort she continued for the last three summers. After a season at Lower Merion, Ostoich completed a two-year stop as an assistant coach at Davidson. With Ostoich the Wildcats scored 11 wins, including an 8-11 season that resulted in Ostoich’s head coach, Ginny Turner, winning the Atlantic 10’s Coach of the Year award. In two seasons, Ostoich helped Davidson pick up five All-Conference honors from the Atlantic 10. “I would like to thank Fred Glass and Kristine Fowler for this great opportunity,” Ostoich told IUHoosiers.com after her appointment. “I am excited to be in the Big Ten, and I look forward to coaching this group of passionate young ladies and guiding them to future success.” Ostoich was additionally an outstanding defender and a four-year starter at Richmond. With the Spiders, Ostoich made two appearances at the NCAA Tournament following a pair of Atlantic 10 championships. She served as Richmond’s co-captain during her senior season, when the Spiders’ back line ranked top-five nationally in shutouts per game. Ostoich made two appearances on the Atlantic 10’s All-Tournament team and received All-Rookie accolades in 2009. Ostoich graduated from the University of Richmond in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Marketing.

BECKY STILES ASSISTANT COACH
Indiana field hockey head coach Amanda Janney announced the addition of Becky Stiles to her coaching staff. Stiles, a four-year standout for Michigan State, will begin her collegiate coaching career as the Hoosiers’ assistant coach. “Becky is an outstanding midfielder who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as someone who knows how to win in the Big Ten Conference,” Janney said of the team’s latest addition. “She is an upstanding role model for our student-athletes and I know she is going to strengthen our staff and help us continue to build on the successes of our last two years.” Janney also noted that Stiles brings a recruiting advantage to the state of New Jersey, one of the nation’s field hockey hotbeds. Stiles was not only a prep level standout in the Garden State; she served as a volunteer coach for the Spirit of USA Field Hockey Club, located in South Jersey, and played for the New Jersey Women’s High Performance Team in the USA Field Hockey system. Stiles’ involvement with USA Field Hockey continued at the junior national level. She entered the system during her prep years and continued through the High Performance system until she received a selection to the U-21 Women’s National Team in 2012. Stiles played with Team USA in the 2012 Junior Pan American Games and helped the squad qualify for the Junior World Cup. As a Big Ten field hockey player for the Spartans, Stiles was exceptional. She made 77 starts in her four-year career, scoring six goals with 10 assists from the midfield. Stiles was a three-time NFHCA All-West Region selection and an All-Big Ten honoree as a junior and senior. As a senior, Stiles led Michigan State on and off the turf as team captain, earning the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship Award in the process. Stiles collected two Academic All-Big Ten honors and cracked the Dean’s List as an Economics student at Michigan State University. She graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and entered an internship with the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia as a risk analyst. She continued her career with the Federal Reserve upon completion of the internship.

WEEKEND SNAPSHOT Indiana aims to defend their four-game winning streak and unbeaten home start as they host their first game of their Big Ten schedule this weekend. After starting the season with three ranked oppoents out of conference, the Hoosiers are geared up for a tester with the top-10 Terrapins. After that, they’ll play host to an annual in-state clash with the Ball State Cardinals. These games are crucial, as they set up a five-game stretch away from home. CORNER HITS HOME SWEET HOME
The Hoosiers rolled through the opening weekend of their home schedule with two victories at the IU Field Hockey Complex, dropping Central Michigan 4-1 before triumphing in overtime against Miami, 3-2. Maddie Latino led the attack with four goals in total, and four different Hoosiers netted goals from penalty corners against the Chippewas. It’s the first time since Amanda Janney’s arrival in Bloomington that Indiana won their first two home games of the year.
HOOSIER HAT TRICK HEROES
The last two weekends, Indiana has seen superlative performances from two of their top attackers, Ciara Girouard and Maddie Latino. Girouard registered her first career hat trick at Villanova and won the following Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor. Latino answered the next weekend, scoring all of IU’s goals with a hat trick against Miami and winning that week’s Big Ten Offensive Player of the week award. This is the first time in IU Field Hockey history that Hoosierswon back-to-back offensive conference weekly honors. Latino and Girouard both rank in the national top 20 for scoring average (0.83/game).
MEETING MARYLAND
The Hoosiers square off for their fourth all-time meeting, all as conference foes. The Terps have won all three meetings, the last two taking place in College Park. The closest clash of the series came in 2015, when Maryland pulled out a 1-0 overtime win that featured 16 saves by Hoosier keeper Noëlle Rother.
The Terrapins are off to a 3-2 start, most recently topping No. 11 Louisville 1-0 at home. Their defender, Bodil Keus, is the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the decisive goal against Louisville while allowing just one shot on goal.
CLASH WITH THE CARDINALS
Indiana returns to the turf on Sunday to face Ball State, their in-state counterpart in Division-I field hockey. The Hoosiers are 11-5 in the overall series and have won the last three games against the Cardinals, most recently by a score of 4-2 in 2015.

The last time Indiana had back-to-back weekends with two home games was in 2014. The Hoosiers faced three ranked teams in that stretch (No. 15 Michigan, No. 5 Duke, No. 20 Michigan State), pulling out the upset against Duke and Michigan State. The Hoosiers are unbeaten this season (3-0) in games tied at halftime and have yet to lose (4-0) in the month of September Friday’s game vs. Maryland will have a limited supply headband giveaway. Sunday’s game vs. Ball State will promote “Greening Cream & Crimson”, an initiative designed to improve sustainability across IU Athletics. In her first two seasons at Indiana, head coach Amanda Janney has developed and produced the Hoosiers’ second-ever AllAmerican first team selection (Kate Barber, 2016), the second goalkeeper named to the All-Big Ten first team in program history (Noëlle Rother, 2016), Indiana’s first winning Big Ten record since 2009, and the Big Ten’s best defense in terms of team saves. In total, Janney’s players have earned six All-Big Ten selections, 24 Academic All-Big Ten honors, 24 NFHCA AllAcademic accolades, and 10 Big Ten weekly honors. The 2016 season saw a continued push towards Janney’s goals for Indiana field hockey, which was evident in her eightplayer recruiting class. Two of those players—Ciara Girouard and Kelsey Giese—started all 20 games in their freshman seasons, while Andi Jackson worked her way into the lineup by the end of the year. But the group pacing the team was a deeply talented senior quartet of Kate Barber, Morgan Dye, Malia Fujisawa, and Mollie Getzfread. Barber led the way with school records for goals (18) and points (40) on the way to a first team All-American selection, the first in over 10 years for Indiana (Kayla Bashore, 2005). Sophomore Noëlle Rother led the Big Ten between the pipes to receive first team All-Big Ten honors, along with an NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week award. The 2016 team achieved their second consecutive trip to the Big Ten Field Hockey Championships, a feat they last achieved in a three-year run from 2011 to 2013. Along the way they posted three regular season shutouts, upset No. 6 Northwestern at home before upending No. 12 Michigan on the road, and amassed valiant comeback attempts against No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 6 Penn State, and the eventual NCAA Champion Delaware Blue Hens. In 2015, Janney’s first season with Indiana, the Hoosiers improved by four wins in the Big Ten conference, setting a new school record with five wins against Big Ten teams. Indiana improved from an eighth-place finish in 2014 to take the third seed in the 2015 Big Ten Tournament. Three Hoosiers—Kate Barber (First Team-unanimous), Sydney Supica (Second Team), and Noëlle Rother (Second Team)—earned All-Big Ten and All-NFHCA All-West Region accolades. In addition Barber received All-American honors from the NFHCA and Synapse Sports, the first All-American Hoosier since Audra Heilman (2013).

Season highlights in 2015 include the Hoosiers’ weekend sweep against Iowa and Northwestern, both ranked in the national top20; a 3-0 road win at Ohio State, the Hoosiers’ first shutout over the Buckeyes in program history; a home 1-0 win over Penn State, won on a last-second penalty corner goal before halftime; a 1-0 overtime loss at Maryland, where Indiana held the sixth-ranked Terrapins scoreless for 77 minutes; and a 2-0 win against Rutgers on Senior Day to clinch the program record for single-season Big Ten wins. Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass announced the hiring of Temple University Head Coach Amanda Janney as the new head coach of the Indiana field hockey program on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015. Joining the Hoosiers after 10 years as the head coach at Temple, Janney had compiled a 114-94 record with 10 straight postseason appearances. In 2014, Janney led the Owls to a No. 11 NCAA RPI ranking and a finish of No. 14 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll. At Temple, Janney took over a team that had not turned in a winning record since 1992 and transformed it into a consistently successful program. In those 10 seasons, Janney coached five Atlantic 10 Players of the Year, 23 All-Conference selections, three All-Americans, three Temple Student-Athletes of the Year and 16 Regional All-Americans. “We are thrilled to have Amanda Janney as the new leader of Indiana field hockey,” Glass said. “On the field, in the classroom, and in the community, Amanda’s track record as the head coach at Temple is extraordinary. Known as an elite recruiter and talent developer, we believe we have hired one of the great field hockey coaches in the country.” Janney was selected as head coach after a comprehensive national search led by Glass who worked in consultation with the Search Advisory Committee, consisting of key administrators, support staff, along with team captain Nicole Volgraf (2011-15) and defender Malia Fujisawa (2013-present), who served as the student-athlete representatives to the committee. Glass and the
committee reviewed dozens of potential candidates, performed extensive research and reference checks on a handful or so, and had four candidates, including Amanda, on campus to interview with Glass and the committee. After a thorough review, Glass made the decision to hire Janney as head coach. Upon her appointment as head coach, Janney stated her excitement about the opportunity to coach at Indiana and in one of the nation’s elite conferences. “I want to thank Fred Glass and the administration for this amazing opportunity,” said Janney. “I am already so impressed with the team leaders, the IU field hockey alumni, and the Spirit of Indiana. I am ready to lead IU field hockey and compete in the Big Ten, one of the best conferences in the country.” Janney played collegiately at Wake Forest University, scoring 21 goals and tallying 17 assists as a center forward while graduating Cum Laude in Sociology. As a member of the USA Indoor National Team, she earned a gold medal at the Women’s National Indoor Championship in 2010. “Growing up in Philadelphia, I loved watching Coach Janney’s Temple teams play,” said studentathlete Search Advisory Committee representative Nicole Volgraf. “On her interview, she lit up the room with her passion and unbelievable drive. She is just the coach that IU field hockey needs to go to the next level.” Prior to joining the Owls, Janney spent two years as the First Assistant Coach at the University of Pennsylvania, leading the team to a 23-12 overall record and a 2004 Ivy League Championship. She also spent the 2002 season as the Second Assistant Coach at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Additionally, Janney currently serves as a coach of the USFHA Midwest High Performance site. She has also coached the USFHA Pennsylvania and New Jersey High Performance teams, leading the Pennsylvania team to a USFHA Women’s National Championship in June of 2014.

Indiana field hockey coach Amanda Janney announced on May 2, 2017 the addition of Catherine Ostoich to her coaching staff. Ostoich, who comes to Indiana after one season as the head coach at Missouri State, will join the Hoosiers as an assistant coach. Janney believes Indiana’s newest coach, who specializes in the defensive end, will bring an aggressive style of play to all areas of the turf.

“Catherine brings great coaching and playing experience to our program,” Janney said. “I know she is going to bring passion and energy to strengthen our defense. She is an excellent role model for our student-athletes and I’m excited for her to start and help us better prepare for the fall season.” Most recently, Ostoich completed her first year as a Division-I head coach at Missouri State in the 2016 fall season. She guided two players to All-MAC team selections and the Bears placed 11 athletes on the NFHCA’s National Academic Squad. “She has a ton of potential to help take our Hoosiers team to the next level,” Janney added. Ostoich entered coaching immediately after graduating from the University of Richmond, serving one season as the head coach at Lower Merion High School (Ardmore, Pa.). At the same time, Ostoich began working as a camp manager for World Camp USA, an effort she continued for the last three summers. After a season at Lower Merion, Ostoich completed a two-year stop as an assistant coach at Davidson. With Ostoich the Wildcats scored 11 wins, including an 8-11 season that resulted in Ostoich’s head coach, Ginny Turner, winning the Atlantic 10’s Coach of the Year award. In two seasons, Ostoich helped Davidson pick up five All-Conference honors from the Atlantic 10. “I would like to thank Fred Glass and Kristine Fowler for this great opportunity,” Ostoich told IUHoosiers.com after her appointment. “I am excited to be in the Big Ten, and I look forward to coaching this group of passionate young ladies and guiding them to future success.” Ostoich was additionally an outstanding defender and a four-year starter at Richmond. With the Spiders, Ostoich made two appearances at the NCAA Tournament following a pair of Atlantic 10 championships. She served as Richmond’s co-captain during her senior season, when the Spiders’ back line ranked top-five nationally in shutouts per game. Ostoich made two appearances on the Atlantic 10’s All-Tournament team and received All-Rookie accolades in 2009. Ostoich graduated from the University of Richmond in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Marketing.

Indiana field hockey head coach Amanda Janney announced the addition of Becky Stiles to her coaching staff. Stiles, a four-year standout for Michigan State, will begin her collegiate coaching career as the Hoosiers’ assistant coach. “Becky is an outstanding midfielder who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as someone who knows how to win in the Big Ten Conference,” Janney said of the team’s latest addition. “She is an upstanding role model for our student-athletes and I know she is going to strengthen our staff and help us continue to build on the successes of our last two years.” Janney also noted that Stiles brings a recruiting advantage to the state of New Jersey, one of the nation’s field hockey hotbeds. Stiles was not only a prep level standout in the Garden State; she served as a volunteer coach for the Spirit of USA Field Hockey Club, located in South Jersey, and played for the New Jersey Women’s High Performance Team in the USA Field Hockey system. Stiles’ involvement with USA Field Hockey continued at the junior national level. She entered the system during her prep years and continued through the High Performance system until she received a selection to the U-21 Women’s National Team in 2012. Stiles played with Team USA in the 2012 Junior Pan American Games and helped the squad qualify for the Junior World Cup. As a Big Ten field hockey player for the Spartans, Stiles was exceptional. She made 77 starts in her four-year career, scoring six goals with 10 assists from the midfield. Stiles was a three-time NFHCA All-West Region selection and an All-Big Ten honoree as a junior and senior. As a senior, Stiles led Michigan State on and off the turf as team captain, earning the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship Award in the process. Stiles collected two Academic All-Big Ten honors and cracked the Dean’s List as an Economics student at Michigan State University. She graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and entered an internship with the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia as a risk analyst. She continued her career with the Federal Reserve upon completion of the internship.
