Intramural Sports
INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE RULES Current NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) shall govern all intramurals rules used for soccer unless modified by the York College Intramurals for program needs. Teams A team will play with five (5) players on the court at a time, this includes a goalie. A team may start and play a game with as few as four (4) players. o If the number of players drops below four (4) for any reason, except for an injury, the team will be forced to forfeit. Co-Ed teams must always have at least two (2) females on the court at all times. Teams may have up to fifteen (15) players listed on the roster. Forfeits If at least four (4) players are not present at the scheduled start time, it will be considered a forfeit. In order to claim a forfeit, a team must have at least four (4) players present and ready to play at game time. If neither team has at least four (4) players at game time it will be considered a double forfeit. Equipment Proper closed‐toe athletic shoes must be worn. Soccer balls will be provided for each game. Teams should wear their assigned colors. (Pinnies will be available if both teams are wearing the same color.) No hats, braces, casts and/or any other item deemed dangerous by the Intramural Staff may not be worn. Jewelry is prohibited. Only water is allowed in the Field House. (No Gatorade, energy drinks, Vitamin Water, etc.) Please do not kick the balls against the field house walls or curtains. Rules of the Game The game will consist of two 15‐minute halves (running clock, only stopping for injuries), with a three (3) minute halftime. The clock will stop in the last two minutes of the second half on all goals when the lead is less than five (5) goals. No Time Outs Games resulting in a tie: o If the score is tied at the end of regulation during the regular season, it will remain a tie. o If the score is tied at the end of regulation during playoffs, there will be a five (5) minute Golden Goal period. o If neither team scores during that period, penalty kicks will be the deciding factor. Each team will get five (5) penalty kicks from the top of the key. A coin toss will determine which team kicks first. Kicks will go in alternating order and must be taken by five (5) different players. Coed: At least 2 females must participate in the penalty kicks. Players taking penalty kicks must have played in the game. o If a winner is not determined after the first set of penalty kicks, sudden death penalty kicks will determine the winner. Teams will alternate penalty kicks until a winner is decided. Revised 1/6/15
Goalies ‐ No punting/dropkicks past the halfway line. Mercy rule will occur when a team is up by 5 goals with two minutes in the game.
Substitutions Teams are allowed to make as many substitutions as they would like. Substitutions may be made during dead-ball plays. The new player may not enter until the player he/she is replacing is off the court. If a player is ejected from the game, they may NOT be replaced. They must leave the playing area immediately. Start of Game A coin toss will be conducted at the beginning of each contest. The winner of the toss will have the choice to defend a goal or start with the ball at midfield. The losing team is given the remaining choice. At the beginning of the second half teams will switch goals. A coin toss will also be conducted at the beginning of the overtime period as well as for penalty kicks. Boundaries The basketball lines will make up the playing area. The ball must wholly cross the goal line or out-of-bounds lines to be considered out-of-bounds. The penalty area (Goal box) will be marked by blue tape on the floor. Penalty kicks will be taken from the top of the basketball 3-pt arch. If the ball touches the ceiling, the opposing team will get the ball at the spot directly beneath where the ball hit. Out-of-bounds will restart with a kick-in. Playing Regulations • Corner kicks: o Awarded to the opposing team when a player kicks the ball over his own goal line and will be taken on the corner (no corner‐kick arc). o The kicker cannot play the ball a second time until it has been played by another player. If the kicker does touch the ball before played by another player the opposing team will receive an indirect kick from that point. o All players must be at least seven (7) feet from the ball. o Can score directly on a corner kick. • Goal Clearance: o Taken in place of goal kick. o Awarded when a player kicks the ball over the opposing team’s goal line. o The player taking the goal clearance must be inside the penalty area and must throw the ball into play. o The ball is not in play until it has passed outside of the penalty area. If it is played inside the penalty area, it shall be taken over. o The ball must be played by another player before it crosses the halfway line. This must happen for any shots saved or goal kicks. The team in possesion must always touch the ball before the halfway line. If not an indirect kick is taken at half court. o Can’t score directly off a goal clearance. • Kick-in: o To be taken in place of the throw-in. o The ball is placed on the touch line before the kick-in. o The ball must be completely stopped before being played in. o The kicker’s foot not kicking the ball must be outside or at least on the touchline. If it crosses the touchline, the kick-in is given to the opposing team. o The kicker cannot play the ball a second time until it has been played by another player. Revised 1/6/15
