Rotary Presented its Andreola Award to Graduating PHS Student
The Rotary Club of PennsaukenMerchantville awarded its Andy Andreola Award to Pennsauken High School graduating senior Kristin Comose. The award was presented at its June 23 meeting at Bobby Ray’s Pub in Pennsauken. The Andy Andreola Award is a $500 college scholarship presented to a student who has been active in community service and plans to continue their education. Comose has been very active in community service by raising funds for Hospice Hope, Jake’s Place and helping at the Greyhound Rescue Center. She will be attending Richard Richard Stockton College of NJ in the fall.

“Right now in New Jersey, there are maybe four or five. We’re number one in the newest technology, though,” he said. “We clean the water a step further.” Prickett said when completed, the Country Club will never be put on water restrictions mainly because the irrigation system is replenishing the aquifer or underground water supply. He said by avoiding watering restrictions, it prevents the excessive cost of re-seeding and rejuvenating the golf course to bring it back to operational. “This project is a win-win for the community and the people who need the water for drinking,” said Prickett. “The other positive is that it adds some unique water features to the Country Club.”

Pennsauken was selected for financing by the state DEP, according to a 2005 press release, when $35 million was designated for wastewater reuse projects. “It’s taken many trips to the DEP and engineering before it finally came to fruition in April (2011),” said Prickett, who is now a consultant. “It’s approximately 70 percent completed,” said Prickett. The project is expected to be completely operational by the end of this year or the beginning of next. He said many golf courses around the country use grey water, particularly in Florida; the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina; Arizona and most of California.

Pennsauken resident Katie Gallagher was the 2011 senior captain of the University of Maryland Women’s Lacrosse team where she was named to the 2011 NCAA AllAmerican second team as a defender and was one of six team members named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference list as the league’s best players. The Terps finished 2nd in the nationals this year. Last year, Gallagher helped lead the Terps’ top-ranked defense to an NCAA national championship and third ACC championship after being diagnosed early in the year with Crohn’s Disease. The story of her diagnosis and her fight to return to the field as a topranked defender was featured in a special by CBS Sports in early July. The 23-year old graduated in December with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral and Community Health. She is enrolled in Drexel University’s accelerated Nursing Program and is headed toward a second Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
