The University of Strathclyde In 1796 Professor John Anderson left a bequest in his will for the establishment of 'a second higher education institution' in Glasgow which would be a place of 'useful learning' and of education for all, regardless of gender or social class.

Then and Now • This year we are celebrating 50 years since the University was awarded its royal charter.
• In 1964 the University had 4000 students and operated from one block of buildings. • Today we are the 3rd largest University in Scotland with 22,000 students from 100 countries and 3,500 staff.
