In Artistic SimpleCut software, choose or create a design that you want to cut.
Step 2
The Artistic Fabric Start kit provides you with two options of preparing your fabric. If you want to cut out fabric for free-standing projects, like 3-D flowers, or want lighter weight appliqué, use Terial Magic and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
If you are wish to create fabric shapes explicitly for appliqué, then use the enclosed fusible web material and follow these steps: 1. Cut a square/rectangle piece of your fabric approximately 2” larger than the finished design’s dimensions. 2. Cut the fusible web material slightly smaller than the cut fabric. 3. Using the wool setting on your Artistic Press or iron, press the textured side of the fusible web to the wrong side of the fabric until the web is completely adhered to the fabric, approximately 8 - 12 seconds. 4. Remove the white paper lining from the back of the fabric and attach the newly fused fabric (fabric side up) onto the center of the high tack mat.
Hint: For intricate designs, with many inside cut-outs, make sure to create the design with the inner cut outs done first, followed by the perimeter cut. 5. If your fabric is pre-treated with Terial Magic, attach to the mat, right side up.
Step 3
Load the Cutting Mat into your cutter. Insert the fabric blade (yellow) into the blade holder. Set the blade depth to 2.
Step 4
In the “Export to Cutters” menu, choose the Artistic Edge cutter from the cutter list. If you haven’t already pre-selected the blade pressure and cutting speed on your design screen, you can adjust it here. Change your blade pressure to 50 and your Speed to 20. Move the blade using the buttons on the cutter or in the menu screen to a corner of the material that you won’t be using and click “Test” to cut a small sample. Peel the cut section off to verify you have cut through the fabric. Adjust your blade depth and blade pressure as necessary to make a clean cut of your fabric.
Appliqué adds life and dimension to sewing and quilting projects.
Step 5
Move your blade to the part of your fabric that you want to make your final cut. The pink dot on the outside of your design in the “Export to Cutter” menu represents where the blade start position is. Click any of the green crosshairs to change the start position, then click “Trace”. This will trace around where the design will cut so you can see if the design will fit on your fabric. If at any point the blade head goes off your material, adjust your starting position and “Trace” again.

Step 6
Click “Cut” to cut the design. When your cutter is finished, remove the mat from the cutter. Remove the negative space of the design using the Artistic Hook leaving only the design.
