There aren’t a lot of fields reporting in the W/I area with the crop being fairly short and slower to start. The Virden area is the most advanced with a report of the alfalfa in the early bud stage. Next report should have more fields reporting giving us a better idea where the crop stands

Alfalfa in the Virden area
Mike Graham didn’t have a tape with him on the 16th but he use a screwdriver to show that his alfalfa is over 12 inches tall at that point
Winter Kill Hopefully most of you have walked your alfalfa fields and assessed if you have any significant winterkill concerns. From the fields that I have visited in the South-East winterkill doesn’t look to be a concern. Hopefully your fields look like photo 1 rather than photo 2. For more information on assessing alfalfa winter kill go to the MFGA May newsletter.
