nǐ zhīdào ma? zuótiān wǒ qù bàifǎng yí gè xīn kèhù, jiāohuàn míngpiàn de shíhou, wǒ chàyīdiǎnr xiào chūlái。 You know what? I went to pay a visit to a new client yesterday. When we were exchanging business cards, I nearly burst out laughing.
B:
为什么? wèishénme? Why?
A:
She said: "Hello, my surname is Mao", then passed me her business card. I naturally read her name out loud and it was super embarrassing.
B:
她叫? tā jiào? She was called?
A:
máo róngróng。 Mao Rong Rong (homonym of fluffy or hairy)
cǎozìtóu, xiàmian yí gè róngyì de Róng, zhǎng de tǐng piàoliang de nǚhái。 The one with the "grass" radical on the top, and the "rong" from "easy" at the bottom. She was quite a pretty girl.
B:
zhè ge róng zì shì hěn shìhé piàoliang nǚhái, dàn shízài bù yīnggāi xìng máo。 This "rong" does suit pretty girls, but it really shouldn't have been paired with the surname "mao".
A:
Your surname is something you can't change. It's the parents that should be careful when giving names!
B:
wǒ shàngcì yě yù dào yí gè jiào Ōupǐnkāng de rén, chàyīdiǎnr xiào sǐ wǒ。 I also met someone call "ou pin kang" last time. I nearly laughed to death.
A:
Ōupǐnkāng yǒu shénme hǎoxiào? What's so funny about "ou ping kang"?
B:
Ōupǐnkāng tīng qǐlai jiùshì mǐnnánhuà de“ wā bíkǒng” ā! You don't speak the fujianese dialect do you? "ou pin kang" sounds like "pick your nose" in fujianese.
