Intramural Badminton Rules General Overview Team Registration and Entry Fee Team registrations are paid at the MWC front desk. Payments must be made by the second week of the regular season or the individual/team will forfeit their spot in the league. After paying your registration fee at the front desk. Have the Campus Rec front desk staff person give your receipt to you with your name printed on the receipt. Turn-in to the Intramural Supervisor. The entry fee for Badminton is $5/singles and $10/doubles. Team Captain’s Quiz Team captains are required to take an online rules and handbook quiz and score 100% in order to complete the registration process for a team. The quiz will contain general policy and sport-specific rule questions in multiple choice format. Player Registration Individual player registrations (i.e. roster additions) are also done via IMLeagues. No roster addition sheets are available on-site. Please make sure all roster additions are completed prior to the scheduled contest start time. Team Schedules Team schedules for regular season and playoff contests will be published in IMLeagues. Captains and participants will be contacted via IMLeagues when schedules are completed and ready to view. General Procedures/Reminders Please refer to the 2016-17 Campus Rec Intramural Sports Participant Handbook for all policies and procedures related to Intramural contests. The Intramural Sports program assumes no responsibility for injuries and all participants must sign the online waiver in IMLeagues or complete the Indemnity Statement prior to competing.
1. Game a. Teams will be allowed four players, no substitutions during the match but subs may come in in-between sets, and they may play individually if needed. b. The field of play will be the outer brown lines on the gym floor. Players will use the short service line for serving c. Games will be self-officiated. d. Games will be started by rock-paper-scissors, with the winner getting the first serve, and the loser choosing which side they would like to start on. e. Games will be played to 25 with rally scoring. If the game gets to 24-24, one team must win by two. f. A match is the best two of three games. With one minute between sets. g. Serving will be as follows: the server will serve from their right side of the court; servers will rotate serving from the right side of the court to the left side, only your opponent standing diagonally opposite of you shall return the service, receiving players may not switch sides. h. Servers must keep both feet stationary, make initial contact below waist level, and serve in a continuous motion (no faking, fault) i. Only the serving side can score, and if they win the rally, the server switches court sides and continues to serve. j. A player commits a fault when the shuttle is in play and he/she: o Hits the shuttle when it is on the opponents side k. Touches the net or posts with the racket l. Has the racket or any part of his body over or under the net (exception: a racket can cross the net, without it touching it, on a follow through, as long as the shuttle contact was on the hitter’s side of the net) m. Obstructs an opponent’s follow through n. The shuttle is put into play and remains in play until: o. Hits the floor o Hits the ceiling, wall, curtain, or basketball hoop o Hits a player or clothing o Hits the net or post and drops on the hitters side o Gets stuck in the net or suspended on top of the net o The shuttle is not in play when a fault occurs p. Teams will switch sides at the end of each game q. If the shuttle hits any part of the boundary line it is considered “in”
