Facility  All games will be played in the RSOP Swimming Pool, SPHC 20.

Timing  Regular Season Play o Each match will consist of three games. o Each game will be limited to seven minutes. o A +/- score will be assigned to each game based on the number of team members left standing at the end of the game. Example: Team ‘A’ eliminates Team ‘B’ and still has three players standing, Team ‘A’ receives a (+3), Team ‘B’ receives a (-3).  Tournament Play o Each match will be decided using a “best-of-three” format in which the first team to win two games will be declared winner of the match. o If the time limit is reached the team with the most players floating will win that game. o If both teams have the same number of players floating after the time limit the game will proceed to sudden death dodgeball. Each team will choose one player to represent their team. The two opponents will battle in a 2 minute game (using two balls) until only one player remains. o If the outcome is still undecided after sudden death dodgeball we will proceed to a full team sudden death. This will be played with the same rules as a regular game, but the first team to eliminate an opposing player will be declared the winner. Players  Each game begins with four players competing on a side. Two players are needed to begin and continue play.  You may have up to eight players on your roster.  You may substitute at the beginning of each game or during timeouts. Start of Play  A standard game consists of six balls; each team will start with three.  Players then take a position with at least one hand touching their end wall.  Play with start with a signal from the official.  A false start will be called if a player loses contact with the wall prior to the official’s signal to start the game. Play will be stopped and one ball from the offending team’s side will be moved to opponent’s side. This procedure will be repeated for each infraction.

Game Play  Players must be in contact with their tube at all times and may not be in control of any other tubes.  There is no kneeling or standing on the tubes.  The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them out.  An out is scored by hitting an opposing player’s tube with a live thrown ball or a player loses contact with their tube. (Once a player is out they are to abandon their tube and swim to the side divider line)  Catching a ball thrown by your opponent does not eliminate the thrower, however it will result in the catching team getting a player back. Players come back in by the order in which they were eliminated.  A ball becomes dead: o Once it hits the water o Once it hits any structure in the pool area o Once it eliminates a player  A player may block a thrown ball with any part of their body or a ball being held.  Intentionally throwing a ball at an opposing players head is strictly prohibited. If an official judges that a player has intentionally targeted an opposing players head that player will be out for that game.  Each team gets one timeout per match.

Boundary Rules  During play, all players must remain within boundary lines. If a player entire body goes out of bounds they will be called out of the game.  All games will be played in the deep end of the pool.

Equipment  All balls will be provided by the Office of Intramurals and Recreational Sports.  The number of balls used in a regulation game is six.  All individuals inside the pool area must have on athletic swim wear (cutoffs and gym shorts are not permitted).
