Rules of the Game General Rule of Play 

The server may not serve until his opponent is ready. If the opponent attempts a return at the serve, they will be considered ready.

There are no official timeouts unless called by an intramural official and/or supervisor.

Each team needs a minimum of 2 to begin and continue a game.

Scoring 

A match will consist of the best of three (3) games of 11 points.

Team/player must win by two points.

Every time there is a serve — there is a point scored.

The following are illegal actions which will lead to a point for the opposing team: o Hitting the net

o Making contact with opposing teams racquet o Extending racket over the net o Double hits o More than 3 hits and 1 bounce before sending the ball over o Ball hit out of bounds o Double service fault o When the ball is spiked in the no spiking zone Service  To determine serve, teams will “Rock, Paper, Scissors”. The winner shall have choice of: o first serve o receiving first or o choosing ends 

The side that is to have the first serve shall begin serving from behind the back line. o If the serving side wins a rally, they will receive a point and continue to serve from the opposite service square o If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side scores a point and becomes the new serving side.

Serve from the right side when the score is even; serve from the left when the score is odd. o Always serve diagonally to the opposite service area.

The serve must be hit underhanded and in an upward direction below the waist.

The server must stand behind the back line for service.

If in the course of service or rally, the wiffleball touches or passes over the net, the stroke is considered valid. It is a good return if the wiffleball, having passed outside either post, drops on or within the boundary lines of the opposite court.

A “let” is a stoppage off play and a rally is replayed. o A “let” is called when: 

both players fault during a serve

the wiffleball gets stuck in the net and remains suspended

if server serves before opponent is ready

whenever an official sees fit

If the server, in attempting to hit the wiffleball, misses the wiffleball, it is considered a fault. However, if the wiffleball is touched by the racquet, a service has been made.

The receiving team must let the ball bounce once before rallying the ball off a serve.

There is no spiking in front of the second red line.

Faults 

In serving faults occur when: o

The ball hits the none volleying zone

o The ball is hit out of bounds o Does not clear the net o A service landing in the no spiking zone If the server gets two consecutive faults a point and service is awarded to the opposing team.
