Invasive Plant Monitoring in the Mispillion Watershed
More than 20 invasive plants are found in the Mispillion River watershed. One of these plants, porcelain-berry or Ampelopsis brevipedunculata, had infested nearly 200 acres in the City of Milford alone. Like other non-native perennial invasive plants, Porcelain-berry spreads rampantly along streams, rivers, and wetlands out-competing native plants. Invasive plant infestations have both environmental and economic costs such as loss of native plants and wildlife habitat obstruction of drainage systems causing increased flooding and decreased property values. Invasive plants are a problem that will not go away unless people living in infested watersheds get involved on a local level to control their spread.
Want to Know More? Join the Porcelain-berry Control Taskforce and the City of Milford for a workshop focusing on monitoring porcelain-berry and other invasive plants found throughout the Mispillion Watershed.
