iPad Deployment Unpack and talk about 12w vs 10w power brick. Show home button and power button. Step 1 - Power on, discuss name of iPad and why it’s there, swipe to open. Step 2 – Set Passcode, must be 4 characters (numbers or letters), non-repeating and not in sequence. Step 3 – R e-enter passcode to confirm. From Home Screen select and open Settings. Step 4 – S elect “iTunes & App Store” and enter your Apple ID and Password and sign in. Step 5 – Select “iCloud” and enter your Apple ID and Password and sign in. If prompted select “merge” (this will happen if you already have another device using this Apple ID and iCloud). Step 6 – While in iCloud, make sure “Find my iPad” is enabled.
E-Mail Setup Step 7 – Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select “Exchange” and enter your school email address and school password and select “Next”.
Three check marks mean that connection to the Exchange server is successful. If not, please check the wireless network connection. Step 8 – Ensure all items under the mail account are enabled (green). Step 9 – Select “General”, and scroll right column down until you find “Auto-Lock” and make sure it is enabled. Select “Auto-Lock” to set amount of time. Step 10 – Select “Wi-Fi” and choose wireless network “iDevice”. Explain that this is the default wireless network for these devices. Step 11 – Show and explain the “Slide from Top” and “Slide from Bottom” gestures and feature of each.
Step 12 – Home Screen – Discuss the Home Screen and apps. Show how to scroll between screen pages and how to take a screen shot. Have users take a screen shot of pages 2 & 3 for the next step.
Pre-Installed Apps
Step 13 – The installed apps on pages 2 and 3 are apps recommended for school use.
Step 14 – Show how to uninstall apps by pressing and holding an app icon until they “jiggle” and an “x” appears on the icon’s corner. Tap the “x” to uninstall the nd rd app. Make sure all apps on the 2 and 3 pages are uninstalled before proceeding to the next step. Step 15 – Launch the “App Store” from the Home Screen, in the window that appears select “Download All” to re-install some of the apps that were uninstalled in Step 14. Ensure iTunes asks for the user’s new iTunes account and not the “MDM” account before proceeding.
The Apps Store Step 16 – Show the basics of the Apps Store, i.e. search, etc. Search for the Grupio App and walk through registering for the EPS*IT Conference . Staff will be asked to bring their iPads to this conference. Step 17 - Closing apps – show users how to double-click the Home Button to show open apps and how to close apps by swiping them up. Explain importance of not having too many apps open at once. Step 18 – Syncing with computers. Tell users that the IT department will be re-imaging teacher computers over the summer and that if they sync their iPad with their school PC, they will loose any data sync’d. When teachers come back to school in the Fall, we encourage them to sync their devices then. Explain using the “Encrypted” option every so often, and why. Additional Questions or Notes:
