PE NEWS & EVENTS Wanderers Cross Country This is the first event of the school year, and what a windy day it was making it very difficult for all the competitors. This time we had two girls entered in for the first time in a very long time, and what a result Kate Duggan came in third place in the senior girls she was over the moon, she ran a very good race giving us our first medal of the school year well done to Kate. Paras Duggal came in fourth place in the senior boys, and he was up against some very steep competition. This was a brilliant result as this will be his last cross country event for the Wanderers as he will be too old next year to compete, so he was delighted with the result. All together we had 13 students entered and all of them put in a lot of hard work improving on last year’s placing and times so well done to all.
Smile through Sport festival Tuesday 4th October a group of students went along to a sporting festival at Temple Park South Shields. They met up with 4 other schools from around the area, and throughout the day took part in Tennis, Boccia, Rowing, Athletics and sitting Volley ball. The students had a great time trying some new sports such as rowing and tennis. Stephen Miller the Paralympic club thrower was there talking to the students answering any questions they might have, and having photographs taken with his Bronze medal. All the students received a signed photo and wrist bands from Steven which finished the event off nicely.
School’s out for summer but there is always time for Summer School What a fantastic time we had at Summer School this year. We participated in a range of activities such as arts and crafts which included making canvas bags, photo calendars and making Mardi Gras Masks ready for the Mardi Gras Carnival on the last day of summer school. We had lots of external visitors this year which included ‘ Go wild in Nature’ Activities, we got to light a camp fire and toast marshmallows and make hot chocolate as well as complete some craft activities using natural resources. The Lego block party also visited as well as a dancer to prepare us for the ‘Road to Rio’ Olympic celebrations. The weather remained nice for most of summer school which enabled us to get out and about in the sunshine. We visited Exhibition Park in Newcastle, Springfield Park, had a walk around Killingworth lake and went for a fun day at the rising sun Country Park. We also had a visit to Amici’s Restaurant for a well deserved dinner treat and had plenty of opportunities to play on the swings and trampoline in the garden. We have all had such a wonderful time at summer school.
