 



 

Under the direction of the Manager, Traffic Division, the Transportation Engineer is responsible for operational and planning priorities for the City with respect to the transportation network; The position provides staff supervision and intermediate transportation engineering expertise with a focus on program development, implementation and administration, in the areas of Transportation Demand Management, Transportation Systems Management, and Active Transportation; The incumbent will also be responsible for coordinating activities associated with transportation network planning and modeling, and the technical review of land development applications. QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES Completion of a recognized University undergraduate program in Civil Engineering with special courses in Transportation or equivalent; A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the field of transportation/traffic planning operations and design, with a strong knowledge of Municipal development of transportation facilities, engineering standards, and TACK and ITE standards; Experience with transportation planning studies, practices and standards, and transportation modeling; Eligibility for full membership in PEO is required; Familiarity with Synchro and various transportation forecasting and traffic simulation models would be an asset; Experience leading staff and/or teams is strongly preferred; Experience working with Transportation Demand Management strategies would be an asset; Experience working in traffic operations and experience in an urban/rural Municipality would also be considered assets; Must possess and maintain a valid Class 'G' driver’s license; Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Excellent analytical skills combined with sound judgment; Excellent problem solving skills; Strong leadership skills with ability to coach, mentor, motivate and supervise staff; Excellent understanding of municipal government with a well-developed ability to interpret policies and regulations; Excellent understanding of the relationship between policy preparation and implementation, and the requirements through various processes of development approval; Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Strong organization and project management skills with the ability to set priorities and work under pressure of frequent deadlines; Well-developed facilitation, presentation and negotiation skills with an ability to deliver innovative solutions; Knowledge of, and a demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability; Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing and with a variety of stakeholders in a political setting; work will often involve public presentations, and interactions with elected officials, the media and the general public.
