DUKES CLOSE NON-CONFERENCE SLATE IN GAINESVILLE
- James Madison will wrap up its non-conference schedule on Wednesday evening, when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take on Florida at 7 p.m. on Dec. 20. - This past Saturday, junior Stuckey Mosley scored 23 of his 28 points in the second half as JMU pulled away for a 76-67 win at FIU, the Dukes’ first road win of the season. - Saturday’s game marked JMU’s seventh in a row decided by single-digits, marking the first time since the 2012-13 season that the Dukes have played seven straight such contests. The final two of that run, wins over William & Mary and Delaware, came in the quarter- and semifinals of the CAA Tournament that JMU would eventually win for the first time since 1993-94. - Mosley continues to be the primary scoring threat for the Dukes, racking up double-figure points in 11 games so far on his way to a team-high 20.7ppg, the second-highest average in the Colonial Athletic Association thus far. Senior Joey McLean has upped his production in his final season at JMU, shooting 40.1 percent from the field to go with 13.3ppg.
SCOUTING THE GATORS
- On Saturday, Florida dropped a 71-69 decision to Clemson, the Gators’ fourth loss in five games, as part of the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla. to fall to 6-4 on the season. - Against Clemson, junior Jalen Hudson led the Gators with 23 points and four rebounds. Senior Chris Chiozza tallied 14 points, three assists and four steals. - Hudson leads Florida in scoring this season with 19.5ppg on the strength of a blistering 50.8 percent clip from the field. Egor Koulechov sits just behind with 15.3ppg himself and leads the Gators with 7.1rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
- Wednesday’s contest will be just the fourth meeting between the Dukes and Gators and the first since the 1993-94 campaign, with Florida leading the series by a 2-1 margin. - The Dukes have never played in Gainesville, winning a 93-66 decision in Harrisonburg on 12/5/90 after falling to the Gators the season before, 85-77 in Orlando on 12/9/89. In the most recent meeting between the teams, Florida edged JMU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, besting the Dukes in a 64-62 decision in Uniondale, N.Y. on 3/17/94. - James Madison head coach Louis Rowe played in each of the previous two matchups between the two schools, leading Florida with 11 points in 1990, before transferring to JMU and notching seven boards, three assists and a block in 1994 as a junior.

Head Coach Louis Rowe
MEET LOUIS ROWE
- Louis Rowe enters his second season back at James Madison after Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne announced his hiring as the 10th men’s
basketball head coach in program history on March 31, 2016. A former JMU student-athlete and assistant coach, Rowe most recently served as the top assistant coach at Bowling Green. “As we worked through the search process and spoke with a distinguished pool of coaches, it became clear that Louis was the best fit to lead our student-athletes at James Madison,” Bourne said. “Louis has been connected to success at JMU both as a student-athlete and as a coach. Following a long, successful professional career overseas, he started as a college assistant at JMU and went on to further develop his coaching resume with progressive opportunities.”

“Louis has demonstrated an ability to develop talent, and his prowess as a recruiter is impressive in our key geographic areas and beyond,” Bourne said. “He is passionate about JMU, and I’m confident that passion will spill over to our fan base as we restore the support for our program that existed when he played here. Louis perfectly fits the JMU culture, the academic focus of this institution and our emphasis on the student-athlete experience.” After beginning his coaching career at JMU in 2007, Rowe returned to Harrisonburg after successful stints as an assistant coach at Rider, FIU and Bowling Green. Rowe first served JMU as a graduate assistant and assistant coach from 2007-12 under head coaches Dean Keener and Matt Brady. He acted as an assistant coach for the 2007-08 campaign, which saw the Dukes win their most games in five years, before pursuing his master’s degree from JMU as a graduate assistant under Coach Brady from 2008-10. After being elevated to assistant coach for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, Rowe helped lead the Dukes to 33 wins and worked closely with forward Denzel Bowles, who set a JMU single-season record with 290 rebounds and became the program’s first Mid-Major All-American before beginning his professional career in Lithuania and earning an opportunity in the NBA Summer League. During the 2015-16 season, Rowe served in the lead assistant role for Bowling Green, working primarily with the Falcons’ perimeter players as the team advanced to the Mid-American Conference semifinals. He guided guards Zack Denny and Wes Alcegaire to double-digit scoring seasons, as the duo averaged 10.6 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. In his two years at FIU, Rowe helped guide the Panthers to 31 wins from 2013-15 and worked closely with Adrian Diaz, who was named to the Conference USA All-Defensive Team in 2014-15 while setting a school record with 99 blocks, a mark that ranked sixth in the country. Rowe also spent one year at Rider, where he helped guide the Broncos to a 19-15 record and a berth in the 2013 CollegeInsider.com Tournament. He kicked off his coaching career with stints at Osceola (Fla.) High School and Dixie Hollis High School in St. Petersburg, Fla., while he completed his JMU undergraduate degree in business administration.
While at JMU, Rowe also established himself as a standout player for the Dukes after transferring from the University of Florida and sitting out the 1992-93 season under NCAA transfer rules. JMU BASKETBALL TO OFFER COST OF ATTENDANCE
- In accordance with NCAA guidelines, James Madison University has begun offering cost of attendance as part of athletic scholarships for student-athletes participating in men’s and women’s basketball beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year. - The cost of attendance stipends are intended to cover the additional costs of attending school beyond tuition and fees. These costs include transportation and personal expenses. No student fees will be used to cover the estimated $125,000 annual cost to offer cost of attendance to the basketball teams. - The university has identified initial funds from the NCAA Student-Athlete Enhancement Fund and from a new annual supplement for student benefits to cover the costs for the first several years, and private philanthropy through JMU’s Duke Club will be used to cover these costs annually over time. - The decision to offer cost of attendance for JMU’s basketball teams allowed head coaches Louis Rowe (men’s) and Sean O’Regan (women’s) to begin those discussions with recruits during the current freshmen’s recruiting cycle.
CAA TEAMS WITH CBS SPORTS
