Breakout Groups (25 Minutes) (3 min) Breakout Ice breaker question If you could master and become the best at one thing what it be and why? (2 min) Breakout Leader story Talk about a time when your actions didn’t reflect your beliefs. Why did that happen? (20 min) Breakout Group Questions YOU WILL NEED A BIBLE How many of you believe in Santa Claus? What are some things or people that you believe in? ● Leader note: Doesn’t have to be spiritual, example - we believe in gravity and show it when we jump. Why is it so important that our beliefs are backed up by our actions? With everyone going back to school here soon, what if your teacher went to teach a lesson but never fully believed in what they were teaching? How would you react? ● Ex. Monotone speaking, boring presentations, almost disbelief in the topic (Did the civil war really happen?) Someone in the group open your bible and read James 2:14-17. What does this verse break open about our own faith? What can we do to live out our faith in our schools as it is about to start up in the coming weeks?
We will be going through a chapter of James each week and picking out major themes he writes about and apply them to our lives.

Last week we started looking at the book of James ○ Chapter one was about about being humble. ■ Presenter: Pridefully exaggerate about how humble you were last week here. Use sarcasm. Presenter recap who James is for those who are new or don’t remember: ○ Wrote the book of James in the Bible. ○ Jesus’ brother which means he grew up around Jesus and learned from him. Today we are looking at James 2. ○ James 2 is talking about how what we believe is reflected in our actions. What I mean when I say “Your actions show what your true beliefs are.” ○ Imagine someone who says... ■ They are a runner, but they never run. ■ They are a rapper - but have never written a rap. ■ They lift but looks like this... ● SLIDE: Picture super skinny guy ○ “Do you even Lift Bro?” We all know people like that, who say they do or believe in something but their actions are the opposite. James knew people like that too. ■ Slide: James 2:2 “My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others?” ● James knew people who said they were Christians but their actions towards certain type of people didn’t reflect the things Jesus taught. So he calls them out. ● He’s asking “How can you say you believe something but not act on it?” Because our actions show what we truly believe. ○ Slide: James 2:14 ”What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?” ■ If you had the cure for cancer, but never used it...Ever. ■ What if you said you loved your bf/gf, but never showed them? ■ What if you had hope inside you to change the world, but never shared it? ■ What if you had hope inside of you to change your school, but never shared it?

Presenter tell a story about the time that someone told you about Jesus and it changed your life. Or you told someone and it changed theirs. Be sure to tie into the point that if we believe in Jesus it causes us to act on our beliefs. What does that look like in your everyday life? ○ It looks like not just saying, but doing. ■ Having more respect for the people around you. ■ Thinking about how we represent ourselves on social media. ■ How we represent ourselves at school Presenter challenge the students to act on what they believe about God this week. Pray and go to Breakout Groups.
