Hebrews 12:14 he Hebrew writer tells his readers to pursue two things in verse 14—peace and holiness. Jesus said that blessings will come to peacemakers (Matthew 5:9). Troublemakers will live troubled lives by always stirring up strife and causing problems. One who pursues peace will be a part of the solution, not the problem. Paul instructs the Romans that “if possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men” (Romans 12:18). Peacemaking takes a lot of work. One might have to hold his tongue to keep peace. On the other hand, one might need to confront a wrongdoing to keep peace. Peacemakers strive for balance and are usually leaders among men. Are you a Christian who stirs up dissension or who pursues peace with all men? The second admonition from this passage is for holiness or sanctification. Jesus also addresses this trait by saying, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). It is clear from this verse in Hebrews as well as the verse in Matthew that God can only be seen by those with pure or holy hearts. Holiness is a requirement of all Christians! It is not a suggestion from God. One can be called a Christian, but if he is not living a life that is set apart for His glory, the name means nothing; he is only fooling himself. As an experiment, the great scientist Isaac Newton, stared at the image of the sun reflected in a mirror. The brightness burned into his retina, and he suffered temporary blindness. Even after he hid for (continued on p. 2)

Ecclesiastes 1:9-14

three days behind closed doors, still the bright spot would not fade from his vision. Similarly, we should fix our gaze on the penetrating purity of the holiness of God so that His brightness burns into our lives in such a way that it would never fade from our vision.

Our youth and teachers are in preparation for LTC. Let’s keep them all in prayer as they study the scriptures, learn their parts for the puppet shows, and learn their songs. Remember those who are teaching as well. And be willing to help in any way possible. If you want to help in any way, speak with Jeff Hyatt.
