Hot Dogs Fans, It’s busy time of the year for us as we are a little over half way through our schedule for this season. Time has flown by so far and hopefully we can continue to make strides the rest of the season going into Sectional play in March. We split a pair of games last weekend. Friday night we traveled down 9th street in Lafayette to take on the Class A #6 ranked Central Catholic Knights. Both teams were absolutely on fire. It seemed like every shot that was taken was going in. It was a very high paced, up-tempo style game that was absolutely fun to be a part of. We ended up shooting 31 of 56 from the floor while the Knights shot 32 of 56 from the floor for the game. We made a few mistakes down the stretch, but we have learned from those and will build upon that game for the future. Final Score 88-75. Saturday night we welcomed county-rival Clinton Central into Case Arena, and with them former Hot Dogs stand out, Andy Foster (assistant coach at Central). Coach White has turned around a struggling Bulldog program and his players are playing extremely hard. Turnovers, especially self-inflicted turnovers hurt us on Saturday night. We played well in stretches and had just enough cushion to pull out a 10 point victory over the Bulldogs, 68-58. Looking ahead to this weekend; Friday, we travel to Conference and Sectional rival Crawfordsville to take on the Athenians. C-Ville is 5-8 on the season, owning wins over Greencastle, Benton Central, Rockville, Fountain Central, and Southmont. The Athenians are lead into battle by Coach David Pierce who is 50-72 in his 6th season overall at Crawfordsville. We are going to have to play well to win. Limit our turnovers and take high percentage shots to be successful in the Sagamore Conference match-up. Saturday night we travel to West Lafayette High School to take on Coach Dave Wood and his Red Devils. This personally, is one of my favorite games of the season. Coach Wood is an excellent coach and is an even better person. We have the utmost respect for Coach and what he does with his players and program. They are ALWAYS tough come March during tournament time. RDP comes in to their game on Friday against Delphi with a 6-8 record this season. They own wins over Benton Central (Twice), Crawfordsville, Western, Covington and Rensselaer Central. They nearly knocked off 3A #14 Twin Lakes last weekend in a Hoosier Conference game. Last year, we faced West Lafayette twice. In the J&C Hoops Classic match-up, we dropped a late lead and were defeated 73-63. During the normal scheduled game during the season, we were treated to a thriller in Case Arena. It was a back and forth game until the Red Devils came out victorious 77-74 in overtime. Could we have another instant classic? This week we also kicked off our first round of games in our new 3rd and 4th grade league. So far the kids are working hard and the coaches are doing a great job of teaching the fundamentals of the game to them. “In 49 states it’s just basketball…… but this is Indiana”
